The work mainly consisted of feeding the animals and helping Rikke in her kitchen garden. In general, the work was not too exhausting and no previous experience was required. Usually, we worked in the morning and had our afternoons off. In our free time, we had lovely walks on the coast or the forest with their dog Gaia and could explore cute towns nearby like Svaneke. I can really recommend them as hosts if you are an animal lover and enjoy working outdoors!

Jette stayed with us for three weeks, and she instantly became part of our family. Jette is very friendly and respectful, and she was great around the house. She loves to bake, so we now have a freezer full of baked goodies. She was very diligent and careful with everything she did. She took great cake of our animals and became very good friends

Jette was a great help no matter what task we gave her, whether is was tidying, cleaning, weeding, planting or looking after the animals. She often went above and beyond. She was also very good at picking up after herself and left our place looking nice and tidy.

I also had a lot of freetime to visit beautiful places on Bornholm. I knew the island quite well but Rikke and Thomas gave me a lot of new recommendations for the future. Rikke also took me on some nice walks with her cute little dog Gaia. Gaia is a very friendly dog and she could play with her ball & you all day long, if she could - a cute never ending story!
I think it's especially a great place for couples or friends to visit & work together while exploring the island. The farm is beautiful and I enjoyed it to help with taking care of the animals, gardening or cleaning in Rikkes Antique Shop. I also did a lot of baking and enjoyed that really much.

My friends and I stayed with Rikke and Thomas for a week. They let us help them with what we were interested in. We fed the animals, did some gardening, harvested strawberries and garlic. We also cleaned their car, cleaned their antique shop, pulled weeds, cut down trees and so on.

… read more enjoyed their homemade chicken, pork, lamb, Danish meatballs, pizza, and rhubarb tart. After dinner, we played their favorite board games. They also took us to towns like Nexø, Gudhjem, sand beaches, and flea markets. We also went for walks with Gaia, a member of their family, which were very relaxing walks through the forest and on the beach.
I was glad that Rikke, Thomas and Rikke's dad were interested in Japan. They enjoyed the sushi my friends and I made. We also made origami together.

In particular, the rhubarb cake Rikke made was addictive. Additionally, I had the opportunity to experience farm life, including harvesting garlic and strawberries and taking care of animals, which made me realize the importance of food once again. Mélisa and Pauline came to stay with us, and it was their first workaway experience. They were a bit nervous to begin with, but they very quickly found their way round the place and soon became part of our family.

… read more quickly clear that they loved the animals, and they took great care of them. No task was too big or too small, and everything was done with the greatest care. They even went up in a cherry picker! Both girls were eager to learn, especially about gardening.
In the house they were very tidy and helpful, always picking up after themselves. In the evenings we played boardgames and had a lot of fun.
After a rather unpleasant stay at another workaway place, they came back to stay with us, and we wish they could have stayed longer.
Whoever welcomes Mélisa and Pauline into their home, will surely be happy they did so. We enjoyed having them here and hope they will come back some day.

We have been staying 1 month and 3 weeks at Thomas and Rikke's house, though the 3 more weeks were not planned but that tells you how much we liked being there.
It was our first workaway experience, which means we had no idea what to expect and were feeling under qualified. But Rikke always made us do simple but rewarding activities and was

There you'll do what needs to be done depending on the season / need. We painted walls (lots), rearranged flower beds, weeding, harvested. On the afternoon we fed the animals (and we loved doing that).
As Rikke goes every morning (or most) walking with Gaya you were always welcome to accompany them, and it's an opportunity to see Bornholm's trails/walking path. Gaya is such a kind and lovely dog she is always happy to go for a walk with anybody
Though we have cooked for them sometimes, it was Rikke who did most of the cooking. She's a genius cook. Be prepared, you'll have to enjoy cakes. (we did) We also want to point out that, us being vegetarians and them eating meat was a challenge but it came good at the end. We want to thank her for being always so careful with the dishes she proposed us. Thanks Rikke <3 !
Thomas and Rikke are kind, observant and reliable. It was an honor for us to be hosted by them.
They will gladly make you play their favorite board game (which is dead easy!) but be aware, the winner will brag to the others for their win for a few days :)))

Olivia and Freddy come with our highest recommendations. We thoroughly enjoyed having them stay here, and the three weeks they spent at our place whizzed by. They very quickly became part of our family and they were very easy to get along with. They were a great help around the house, always picking up after themselves. They did various jobs
… read more around the farm, feeding the animals, painting, cleaning, gardening and they did all the different jobs diligently and with gusto. They even helped bring in the hay, which is hard physical labour, but it was all done without complaint.
We had loads of fun playing board games in the evenings.
Olivia likes to plan ahead, which means they were very well prepared before coming, and they knew what to expect. Communication with Olivia and Freddy is very easy, and they were quick to reply to emails.
We genuinely hope to see them again in the future.
For our first Workaway we were very fortunate to have found Rikke and Thomas.
We were warmly welcomed straight away and made to feel at ease. We enjoyed our time being with them and working on the farm, it was better than we could have expected.

Rikke and Thomas’ home was lovely and they made sure we were comfortable which was really appreciated. They spoke great English and were able to communicate with us so clearly. We also learnt some Danish from them which we enjoyed. There was a very chill atmosphere and we had a lot of fun playing board games with them!
We stayed 3 weeks and there was plenty to do on the farm but also on Bornholm, we never ran out of ideas. Thomas and Rikke were so helpful in advising us what to see on the island and Copenhagen (where we went after). The island has beautiful walks and lovely beaches. We also had great fun at mini golf!
We really enjoyed our experience and will come back! We will miss Rikke, Thomas and their crazy, beautiful dog Gaia. They made us feel a part of their family. We cannot express our gratitude enough to them and we are so thankful to have met them.

From the moment I returned home, I've been pondering how I could even summarize this incredible experience that I had with Rikke and Thomas. I stayed on Bornholm for more than 6 weeks from the end of October till the end of November 2021.

We have spent a lot of quality time together in the evenings, playing boardgames (Rikke even taught me how to play Back Gamon and we had been going at it very competitively almost every night 😃), or just sitting by the fireplace with their two cuddly dogs, who kept me such great company as well.
What was absolutely amazing, was the fact, that every day was completely different. I came to Bornholm during the time when autumn slowly changes into wintertime, so Rikke and I spent a lot of time in their beautiful garden, cleaning, weeding and preparing the greenhouse and the rest of the garden for winter. Some days Rikke and I also cleaned the second floor of their Antique shop, which they have been renovating and now looks amazing!!
But my main task for the workday was feeding the sheep, goats, pigs and chickens. None of the help asked of us too challenging, the animals are usually very calm and of course they will love you if you give them food 😃
In my free time I usually went on walks or bike rides (on a bike that Rikke and Thomas generously let me borrow), in the absolutely stunning Danish countryside. On the weekends I visited a lot of the parts of Bornholm, its nature is so so beautiful, with rocky and sandy beaches, all reachable with a short bus ride.
My stay here was so pleasurable and filled with happy memories, that I couldn't have experience anywhere else. I truly feel that I was welcomed into a close family, with who I'm going to remain great friends. I'm already planning on coming here again soon, because this is a kind of place and experience that happens only once in a lifetime.
