Description
ABOUT US We are a family of 5: Heri & me, Sabine, (both 44) and 3 kids (14, 17 and 24). The eldest one is already living on his own...
Heri and me are both Social Workers by trade; but in the meantime HERI works as consultant for an IT company, besides he spends plenty of time at PCs; he loves playing games, geocaching and reading.
SABINE stayed home several years, taking care of the kids and renovating the house & garden. She loves relaxing with a cup of coffee/ tea & a book, gardening, sports, cooking/ baking and anything creative.
Sabine works parttime in a local yarn shop and does some indie knit pattern design.
In our spare-time we mostly just relax reading or watching TV, try to do more sports and meet friends for pen&paper roleplaying (D&D, Symbaroum etc).
OUR KIDS attend the local Montessori school and are typical but nice teenies; mostly busy during school time and lazy on weekends/ school holidays.
Elijah is about to finish school 2024 and does a lot of voluntaries; Lillian is a huge fan of animals and art, she loves to draw, crafting and decorating.
Our home is surrounded by a typical small suburban GARDEN (150 sqm) which I converted into an edible permaculture garden; I grow lots berries & herbs, the amount of veggies varies greatly depending on time & motivation.
We generally like the ideas of self-sufficiency & sustainability, so we recycle and renew old stuff & furniture, exchange with neighbours & friends, produce homemade things when possible and try to reduce plastic/ waste.
Still we won`t reach any real self-sufficiency on our limited space, budget & willingness to be too dogmatic. We believe that every small contribution matters and as a family who sometimes has really busy phases just try to stay realistic about our possibilities.
We are a christian family, but we do not tend to baptize people who are just careless enough to take a bath ;-)
We can host either a single, a couple/ 2 friends, would love to host a family, beds for max 2 kids available, an additional baby might work.
We never invite 2 workawayers not travelling together to share the room.
PLANS FOR 2024:
This year we are pretty busy renovating our home. The attic floor got transformed into living space during 2022 and all of us moved to another room. We still work on painting, organizing stuff, decorating...
Having an ambitious plan about all this plus organizing family life around 2 employed jobs and 2 freelance jobs we are typically very busy - or very lazy in our spare-time ;-)
So we are looking for guests who are a bit independent in their free time.
* Looking for CREATIVE PEOPLE with some artist/ crafting skills. We will decorate the finished rooms and want to add some nice handmade details. Lilli and Sabine would love to learn new skills like Macramee, crochet, crafting, painting, weaving, upcycling, whatever ;-)
* BUILDING WORK; the entrance area of the granny flat needs a makeover. Removing wallpaper, knock off roughcast, plastering, painting
* GARDENING & CLEANING. The garden needs a big makeover, some plants will be replaced, new beds made etc
Finally our home needs more cleaning after all the renovations.

Removing wallpapers, fixing & painting walls, doors & windows. refurnishing. Upcycling, decorating, making some art to give it a nice style e.g. makramee, weaving, knitting, sewing ...
Replacing plants, making new beds, clearing out a lot of weeds.
Besides there are plenty of daily tasks we could need help with:

THE GRANNYFLAT CONTAINING THE GUESTROOM is actual under construction. Your room will be usable, but there are some changes ahead:
Actual your room is a big one of 25sqm with 1 double bed (140*200) and access to garden.
You have your private bathroom with WC, shower & sink.
Maybe 2025 the flat will be changed so far as there is a separate bedroom with double bed, a living room with 2 single beds, a working kitchen plus the bathroom.
Everyone of us has his/ her private room, rest of the house is shared: living-/ dining-area, kitchen, terrace, garden. We have a washer, dryer & WiFi highspeed.

WUERZBURG is a Bavarian city with about 130.000 residents, actual more than 20% of them students in cause of the popular universities.
It is located at the river Main in a valley between picturesque vineyards, in the heart of the region Mainfranken, an important vine-growing area in Germany. A very sunny and warm spot of Germany - summers can be quite hot and in winter we rarely get some snow (but plenty of mud and fog...).
The city as well as the district Bavaria are rich in old castles, medieval cities and ancient ruins - very attractive for people who like history and arts.
Wuerzburg offers you a fascinating mix of Bavarian tradition, cultural sights/ events and modern students live.
Many cultural events around the year, nightlife, all kinds of shopping, museums, theatres, a wonderful fortress, the Residenz of Wuerzburg, bars, cafes, open-air festivals, sports, parks with meadows and sport-areas, ship-tours on Main and many more attractions wait to be explored.
As we exchange our home for holidays several times a year we usually have a box with actual infos about festivals, sights etc. for you!
We live in the very quiet suburb "OBERDUERRBACH", surrounded by woods where you can bike or jog, but still close to the city centre of Wuerzburg (about 6 km, public bus available).
Forest starts just over the street and in summer (May-Sept) you reach an open-air bath within 5 minutes by bike.
5 min by feet there is a little supermarket with postal service and a Bavarian Biergarten (pub).
We love living in this suburb as we are able to enjoy both - the tranquillity surrounded by nature as well as all the amenities a big city has to offer.
You reach Frankfurt or Nuernberg within a bit more than 1 hour by train and we also have an excellent Flixbus-connection from/ to Wuerzburg, also Eurobus etc. - check out for your arrival, it is mostly cheaper than trains.
