Hi! My name is Sophie and I am an 18 year old English girl who lives in the city of Colchester, 1 hour from London :)

I love connecting with other people and making friends! I am also studying Spanish and French and adore these languages, so I am really keen to immerse myself in the cultures to broaden my understanding of them and experience new things! I also love cooking - I have no dietary restrictions and would love to learn more Spanish and French recipes!

I want to travel as I love exploring new places and learning more about the history and background of the country/area - I find the history and culture of France particularly fascinating, and would like to better my understanding in preparation for my languages degree which I will begin next year at university. I am from a city called Colchester near London, and whilst I adore the historical landmarks here like the Roman Castle and St John's Abbey Gate, I would love to discover new monuments and the stories behind them!

I love social environments - I have volunteered in a charity shop, and I currently work as a barista at Costa Coffee. This job has been fast-paced but enjoyable, and I am told that I am a kind, hard-worker who works well in a team. I am keen to learn new things and am a clean person who likes to maintain a tidy space.

I also had the opportunity to go on a placement at a nursery where I learned how to better communicate with children and was responsible for supervising group activities, all of which I really enjoyed!

In my down time, I love dance, walking my dog in nature, and being with friends.

At A level I adored learning about the history, art and issues going on in both the Hispanic and Francophone world, and I would like to expand my knowledge of both the cultures and improve my languages. Being a quarter Spanish means that I have been able to practice Spanish within my family but I would also like to improve my French. As I am a native English speaker, I would be very happy to help the host and their family improve their English if they wished to, and could introduce to them a bit of either Spanish or French (whichever is not their first language!) if they were keen!

Quelles sont vos compétences ?

I love learning languages and studied Spanish and French at A level; the prospect of immersing myself into cultures really excites me! I achieved 3 top grade A*s in my A levels, in Spanish, French and Sociology.
I have worked as a barista at Costa Coffee for 4 months which involves using initiative, working quickly under pressure and in a team.
I have also volunteered in a group which supports refugees, which demanded responsibility, patience and and initiative in order to break down language barriers whilst entertaining the children.
I have two open water SCUBA diving qualifications - achieving these meant pushing myself out of my comfort zone and was an adventure I enjoyed!

I love music and dance, as well as going for walks outside and spending time in nature! I also really enjoy going on the occasional day trip to see historical sites if I get the chance!
I would like to travel from ideally February 2024 until about April time.
