  • Description

Hello! I'm Olate, I'm 26 years old and I come from a beautiful place in the north of Spain called Basque Country.

I have always been passionate about travelling and getting to know different countries and immerse in new cultures. In 2022 I finally took the decision to quit my job (I'm a nurse and I love my job but I also love travelling the world) and set on to live my biggest dream: travelling solo with no return ticket. I ended up travelling for a year through South America, South East Asia, India and Nepal. During the trip I realised that this was more than just "a trip". Something really changed in me. After a year I had to come back home for some personal compromises and to save up more money. But I understood that the life I had back home was no longer the life I wanted to have. That's when I saw the difference between a tourist and a traveller. I see travelling as a way of life. So after working for a whole year at home, I'm back to my beloved backpacker life. Meeting local people, understanding how they live, and sharing experiences and thoughts with people from all over the world is one of the most heartwarming feelings I know.

One of the things I've learned while travelling solo is that you are never truly alone. I love the feeling of not knowing where you'll end up next, who you'll meet, and what adventures might cross your way. During my trip in 2022 I travelled with my sister for 2 months, had some friends who joined me, and also travelled with people I met along the way.

In 2025 I’ve spent a few months in South East Asia and 5 months in Nepal. During my time in Nepal I did some trekking but I mostly stayed volunteering in a project to build a farm school. It was mostly construction work and I also learned a lot about gardening.

I’m currently planning to travel around South America for another year.

I’m very interested in learning new languages. While travelling and meeting people from different countries I realised I love languages with different alphabets. In January 2025 I stated to learn Nepali and I’m very motivated and excited with it!

  • Quelles sont vos compétences ?

I’ve worked as a nurse for over 3 years now. I studied nursing because it is more than a job for me, it is my passion. Offering support to someone who is going through a vulnerable situation, gives back in return a lot more than anyone could imagine. Working as a nurse is truly heart filling for me.

During my University years I also worked as a babysitter of 2 kids (3 and 8 years old). I think I've always been good with kids, it brings out the inner child I have in me. I love being silly, making up games, and running around worh them.

ln the summers of my University years, I also went to Africa to do volunteering programs. I was in Senegal and Kenya and I volunteered in orphanages for a few weeks. I gave first aid classes to the kids and we mostly spend the days doing fun activities with them.

As well as I love working with people, I also love being with animals. As a vegetarian, I always try to protect and take care of animals. I never really had any pets because I live in a small house, but I would love to live in the countryside in the future and have dogs, cows, sheeps, chickens...

I love being out in nature, I spend most of my free time in the mountains. It feels so peaceful and free to breath fresh air. I'm very used to hiking a lot, and every once in a while I also go climbing. My friends call me a mountain goat for some reason I guess! Basically wherever I'm surrounded by mountains I feel at home.

I love playing board games but I get very competitive when playing. I will make all efforts to win any game, but eventually I don't really care about who's winning and who's losing. I love how board games make us forget about our phones and let us enjoy each others company in a fun way.

I'm a very organised person, I would say it's even a bit obsessive. I don't mind people being messy around me, but I'm very specific with my own stuff. I guess this is the reason why I like interior design and I enjoy keeping things organised and clean.

I enjoy doing yoga and having my chilled relaxing time. Writing is also one of the hobbies I enjoy doing when I need some time for myself.

I consider myself to be a good listener. I'm good at understanding and empathasing with people and I also believe I can give some useful advice and support.
