Description

We are currently on an adventure of a lifetime travelling South America. We love visiting new places, meeting new people and learning new skills. My boyfriend and I will make conversation with just about anyone, whether waiting for a bus, in an elevator or walking down the road. We're very sociable people because we like to engage with other like minded people who like to explore new places and experience other cultures.

Earlier this year we quit our day jobs to focus on our home. We spent this summer completely redoing our garden and loved the process. We have no background in gardening but learnt so much doing it ourselves and just threw ourselves in the deep end and the results are amazing. We'd like to think that we can help others with the things we've learnt this year. The reason we decided to do this was so that we could rent our home out whilst we travelled to new places.

We wanted to make sure that whilst going to new places that we gave what we could to the local people so that meant immersing ourselves in the local traditions, supporting small businesses and giving back to the community. That's why we want to join the work away community - get to know people, here your stories and help out our hosts with daily life!

Quelles sont vos compétences ?

Stu here! I've tended to try multiple jobs in my life and picked up varied experiences along the way. From a qualified Lifeguard to Forklift Driver to Children's Camp leader to Estate Agent and Race Car Mechanic to name just a few.

I'm from an engineering background - I studied to be a mechanical engineer and I'm fascinated for understanding new technologies and how things work. Now it's become a hobby to put what I know to the test often in and around the house. Designing and constructing storage units, restoring old furniture and landscaping our garden. I paved our driveway this year. I've always been hands on, I'm efficient with building tools, carpentry and plumbing.

I flew to Ghana in Africa to help build a primary school. I was involved in digging and laying the foundations, hand making the blocks and bricklaying. I constructed a timber roof frame and rendered the interior and exterior walls and finished off the concrete floor levelling by hand. The experience was so enriching, all due to the people that I met and the people I worked with. I learnt so many new skills on the site and loved every second at the school. I ended up staying after work and teaching the kids music in my spare time. I'm a drummer and guitarist!

As a kid, I grew up in the scouts and now as an adult, I volunteer as a scout leader where I'm lucky to pass on what I've learnt to the next generation and also make sure that they are having a great time. I run wide games, forest trials and challengers. I was fortunate enough to be offered a job as a Camp Leader for The Bushcraft Company. I ran camps for schools in the forest where my team and I taught kids survival skills and first aid. Having new kids each week, learning their names and giving them an experience to remember is a pleasure and very satisfying.

Nic here! Like Stu, I've also dived into a couple different jobs and gained lots of valuable experience along the way. I come from a background in sport and fitness, after leaving school I went to university to study a master's degree in strength and conditioning science. Whilst at uni, one summer break I went to coach tennis at a camp in America, working with children from different backgrounds. Travelling a small section of the U.S inspired my dream to travel the world.

After completing university, I trained and worked as a personal trainer and ran fitness classes at a local gym. I loved working with a variety of different people and inspiring them on their fitness journey. I then went on to work at a boarding school coaching girls games and working as boarding tutor. I got the opportunity to work along children from lots of different countries and see them develop both at school studies and see them grow in their personal life back at the boarding house.

I then decided I wanted to travel again, so I went back to tennis coaching and got placed in Spain by the sea. I coached both adults and kids at a holiday resort and learnt so much on and off the tennis court. Being a holiday resort giving the customer the best, most enjoyable and providing quality coaching was so much fun, it was a shame when COVID came about and I was sent back to England and my sport and travel industry was shut down, not all bad because I met Stu!

During lockdown I worked at Amazon, starting in the warehouse sorting parcels, then moved to marshall vans in the yard and then progressed to deliver the parcels driving a van.

Post lockdown and most recently I worked as a tennis coach back in England until I quit to go travelling!

We both have an interest in music, Stu played drums as a child and now teaches himself guitar.
I (Nic) play violin and piano and also tried to teach myself guitar, but Stu is much better.

We love being outdoors, going on hikes, bike rides, sitting round a fire, beach days are our favourite!
