Description
Hello! I have Workaway because I am interested in travelling and becoming part of new communities. I am a very open-minded and friendly person and I would like the opportunity to learn from other cultures and people as well as meeting new people and making friends.

In 2024, I moved from the UK to Bogotá where I have been working as an English teacher.Before this, I studied English and Linguistics at university in Leeds, England and worked as a lab technician. I was ready to travel outside of the UK to experience other cultures, languages and ways of life. At university I also studied some modules of Spanish and lived in Bogotá for over 1 year which has been a great opportunity to gain fluency. I am particularly interested in the cultures and languages in Latin America.

In my spare time, I have many hobbies and interests. I love to be outdoors, especially in the sun which I didn't see much in England! Over the last 4 years I have practiced surfing on and off and have loved travelling to different locations to try new surf spots so I would love to spend some time at the coast if there are some waves. I am a spiritual person and love any opportunity to learn from the wisdom and practices of others. I also spend a lot of time meditating, I try to meditate most days because I believe it helps me to keep a clear mind and be happier in my life :)

I am always eager to receive wisdom and hear stories of people from different cultures. I don't take myself too seriously and have a very energetic, fun side and a great sense of humour! I love many different kinds of music including rock and dance music so I love to go to festivals and concerts or would enjoy experiencing new types of music! I am also a DJ and mix jungle, Drum and Bass, and UK Garage and have some experience DJing at parties.

I would welcome the opportunity of any new experiences where I can help others, learn new things and I can grow as a person. I am very easy to talk to and get along with and I hope I can help you with your project :)

I am a native speaker of British English and have gained a good fluency in Spanish after living in Colmbia. After studying linguistics I am also just interested in languages so would be happy to learn any other languages you know! I would love to learn Portugese and am interested in indegenous languages.

Quelles sont vos compétences ?
Most of my work experience is in customer-facing roles. I have lots of experience working behind a bar, working at events, working in a supermarket, and I have volunteered hostels in Colombia and Peru. I am a creative person and am interested in art projects and building or renovating new things. After studying English language and Linguistics, I have a strong knowledge and interest in teaching English. I am also interested in plants and wildlife so would help with any gardening work. Most of my work experience is in customer-facing roles but I am eager to learn new skills and try some more hands-on work. I also have experience babysitting and I am good with children so I would be happy helping out with childcare.

I decided to volunteer at the campo because I wanted to get away from my normal life and spend some time with nature in a peaceful place. This was a great decision and upon reflection I know that the universe sent me to this beautiful place. My time turned out to be a more special experience than I ever expected. Ana has an amazing space, I feel… read more very lucky that I could work on her land and help develop this incredible project. You can feel the presence of Mother Nature at the campo, there is a good range of wildlife like the fruit trees and the cacti which I learnt a lot about during my stay. I really enjoyed the work, it was therapeutic and rewarding to see the changes our effort made.
My time volunteering at the campo was very special not just because of the work but because of the personal experience for me. This place is very different to my usual life and it took some time to adjust and get used to, but once I was settled in I didn’t want to leave! I learnt a lot about permaculture because the place is ecologically self sustained, it runs using its own water source and electricity source from the solar panels. It is a beautiful way of life and opened my eyes to different possibilities of living. Fortunately during my time here the figs were in season, every day we would eat the figs from the tree on the land and they are the best fruit I’ve ever eaten!! All of the food we ate during my stay was delicious, Ana is an amazing cook and uses locally sourced produce like the yummy coquinas we bought from the beach.
A very special part of my time at the campo was the evening workshops and my free time. In the day, I spent a lot of time meditating. With such an incredible connection to nature and so much free time, I felt so focused and peaceful meditating. My daily meditation put me in a great mindset for the spiritual workshops. I arrived at the campo feeling spiritually lost but my experience has awoken me. Ana is a powerful and wise soul and I learnt so much from her. She taught us about the chakras and astrology and our connection to nature. The most meaningful experience I had during my time there was the Cacao ceremony, it was an experience which opened my heart and gave me contact with my soul. We made a Cacao and performed a beautiful meditation and ritual during the sunset. Ana guided us through a breath work activity which sent me into a deep trip where I faced my demons and has led me to make a lot of changes in my life.
The whole experience was very introspective and truly amazing. Since my trip to the campo I have had a spiritual awakening and it has changed my perspective on many things, I will never forget it. If anyone is planning on making this trip, prepare yourself by keeping an open mind and get ready to try new experiences and perspectives!
