Hello there! I'm Mak, I'm new into volunteering but with 26 years LIFE experience.

I am now living in Spain. Originally from the Philippines - a proud island boy!

I am here to add more stories to my life experience and learn new things. I feel like life is passing me by and I haven't done much or been to many places at this age. Being a workawayer is a very promising experience and one for the books!

My passion is mainly music, and I like grooving along to the music that moves me.
I am also into languages, I speak Spanish with upper-intermediate level, and looking to improve more. Would be cool to learn other languages as well!

Lately, since moving abroad, I have been getting good at cooking as I am missing a lot my country's cuisine. I'd love to Filipino food for you!

And for volunteering work, I have done enough to say that I am confident in my ability to learn any job or skill for any tasks at hand, with your guidance of course!

In my Island, we work mostly with our hands. I also grew up in a farm, took care of animals and learned the basics of agriculture. My mama is a cook and my dad is a carpenter. Both of them worked in our garden and most of my skills I learned from them and my 4 older siblings. I also have 6 nephews and nieces (going 7) and they are the ones in these photos, I explicitly asked my sisters if I could include photos of the little ones and me that they took over the years on my profile and they were happy to share our precious family moments ❤️
From this I have the half of my life of childcare experience, I am a kid at heart and they always become my best friends.

After moving far I miss them but I will do my best to make them proud. What I do here now, is I teach English on the side and mostly during the summer I travel.

I am looking forward to hearing your stories and getting to know you and immerse myself in the culture!

¡Hola! Soy Mak 😊 Soy nuevo en esto del voluntariado, pero ya con 26 años de experiencia en la vida.

Ahora vivo en España, aunque soy de Filipinas… ¡un isleño de corazón y muy orgulloso de serlo! 🌴

He venido para sumar nuevas historias a mi vida, aprender cosas nuevas y vivir experiencias que merezcan la pena. A veces siento que la vida pasa muy rápido y que todavía me falta por hacer y descubrir. Ser workawayer me parece una experiencia muy especial y de esas que se recuerdan siempre.

Mi gran pasión es la música: me encanta dejarme llevar y disfrutar del ritmo🎶
También me encantan los idiomas: hablo español a nivel intermedio-alto y quiero seguir mejorando, ¡además de aprender otros en el camino!

Desde que me mudé fuera he estado mejorando en la cocina, sobre todo porque echo de menos la comida de mi casa. ¡Me encantaría prepararos comida filipina un día de estos! 🍲

En cuanto al voluntariado, tengo confianza en mi capacidad de aprender cualquier tarea o habilidad con un poco de orientación. En mi isla estamos acostumbrados a trabajar con las manos: crecí en una granja, cuidando animales y aprendiendo lo básico de la agricultura. Mi madre es cocinera y mi padre carpintero, y entre ellos y mis cuatro hermanos mayores aprendí la mayoría de mis habilidades.

Además, tengo seis sobrinos (¡y una más en camino! 😍). Son los que aparecen en las fotos: pedí permiso a mis hermanas para compartir esos momentos familiares tan bonitos y estuvieron encantadas. Gracias a ellos tengo media vida de experiencia cuidando niños… soy un niño grande de corazón y siempre acabo siendo su mejor amigo❤️

Aunque los echo mucho de menos, mi meta ahora es dar lo mejor de mí para que se sientan orgullosos. Aquí en España doy clases de inglés a tiempo parcial y, sobre todo en verano, aprovecho para viajar y descubrir sitios nuevos.

¡Me haría mucha ilusión escuchar vuestras historias, conoceros y aprender la cultura Española autentica, no la de la turista :D

Quelles sont vos compétences ?

Cooking - started 2 years ago, but I knew I had it me a long time ago, (grew up in a family of cooks)

Carpentry - I am pretty good with tools and consider myself as my own handyman. I had a roommate who was once amazed how I installed a lock on their bathroom door with just a knife and the cheap cheap metal.

Cleaning - all types of cleaning, I do it while singing :D

Farming - I lived in a vegetable farm for most of my childhood wherein I had my own guava tree. I loved climbing fruit trees! I could still climb( I think :)

Animal care - ever since I was a young kid, I was always fascinated and in love with them. From big fur babies to small critters, you name it, I am as exotic as the animals I have been around with haha.

Babysitting - now this one comes from being an uncle of 6 ( now going 7 ). I helped take care of my nephews and nieces everyday at home, taking them to and from school, putting them to bed, feeding them. I miss those kids!

which leads me to the next..

Teaching - I worked as an English language and conversation assistant ( auxiliar de conversacion ) for two years, and I still do it from time to time. I love it when the kids are cheering when I enter the classroom. Doing this work made me feel like the cool older brother.

Technology - ;) I am not the most savvy for a particular niche but I adapt fast to everything. I studied Engineering at university 5 years ago ( from 16 - 20 years old)

Customer service - I worked in customer service for 3 years in the fields of accounting, healthcare and human resource. Plus I am a very smiley person.

Music - I am a hopeful musician, with a few unfinished unpolished songs. I play guitar and sing, kinda. Also drums and a bit of keys (piano)

Dance - I'm not sure how this would be helpful in volunteering but yeah, I bust a few dance moves here and there, used to dance the urban, hip-hop genre in college.
