Aloha, I live in Honolulu, Hawaii and I’m from the United States. I've lived in Hawaii for ten years. Prior to that I lived most of my life in Los Angeles/Orange County, California. I've also been a Couchsurfing Host in Hawaii since 2019. For the last 3 years I have been hosting international students (ages 21-55) in my home who come to Hawaii to learn English at a nearby school. I've made many new friends from these visiting students, and some have hosted me in their home countries. After school we do activities together, prepare and share meals and I help them with their English learning, which I really enjoy.

Hawaii will be my home in my heart to return to from time to time as I travel the world. Perhaps one day I hope to live part time in Europe or Costa Rica.

In the last few years I have been preparing to leave my professional career behind and enjoy life traveling. Volunteering in other countries allows me to use my skills helping others and opens up my world to new experiences. I'm open to opportunities that might allow me to travel long term or stay in a place for a while.

So far I’ve traveled backpacking to Costa Rica, France, Italy, Spain, Croatia and Belgium. Although I'm more mature than most adventurers on Workaway, I have a young adventurous spirit and am looking to see the world and experience the energy of other people and places. Some of my most memorable travel experiences so far have been open ocean kayaking off the Amalfi Coast in Sorrento and exploring Sardinia by motorbike.

I'm most happy in the water, near a beach, but I'm also just as happy hiking in the mountains or countryside. I grew up with horses on a ranch in Michigan, so I'm very comfortable outside on the land.

I enjoy meeting new people, experiencing their energy and learning about their culture. Staying fit and eating healthy is important to me, but I'll still enjoy delicious foods in my host country. I love to dance and enjoy live music. Usually you can find me at the beach or park relaxing in my hammock enjoying a sunset or good book.

My dream is to continue my solo hiking travels around the world, learn to sail, work with horses again and I would absolutely love to open my own travel hostel for more mature travelers like me.

****In 2024 I made 3 trips to Costa Rica helping someone with their future hostel/AirBnb in the jungle area of the Nicoya Peninsula of Costa Rica. I helped with animal care (cats), gardening, daily cooking and house cleaning. The person is not on Workaway but I can get a reference if you would like.**

Quelles sont vos compétences ?

My skills are pretty extensive. I have a bachelor degree in cultural anthropology, and a masters degree in social work and community development. I've mostly worked professionally in property management, sales, customer service, recreational activities, management and financial oversight. I'm highly experienced with computer programs including Google Suite, Microsoft Publisher and PowerPoint, and Excel among many others. I know many social media platforms and have experience with marketing and accounting. I've worked with children as a nanny, and directing a youth sports program and I've worked in mental health settings providing therapy to adolescents, adults and the elderly. I am comfortable working in a casual home or professional setting.

I'm a good cook and enjoy teaching others my recipes. I've traveled extensively throughout the United States and can share that experience with others. I travelled through Europe visiting France, Croatia, Italy and Belgium. I love film and have a minor in film & television studies so I'm always up for watching a movie, especially foreign films. Riding a motorbike is my preferred way to get around in Hawaii and when I travel.
