Hi, I’m Laura!

I'm originally from Ireland but I have been living in the Netherlands for the past four years, and now I’m excited to explore New Zealand as I start a new phase in life. I’m passionate about nature and eager to learn more about forestry, wildlife and habitat conservation, and eco-living.

Having grown up on a farm, I’m very familiar with the lifestyle and hard work that comes with it—I genuinely enjoy working with my hands and being outdoors. I’m also looking forward to meeting all kinds of people, learning from their experiences, and building real connections along the way! :)

Quelles sont vos compétences ?

Farm work;-

I did a lot of this as growing up on a farm. This includes anything from general farm maintenance, yard work, fencing and running odd jobs.

Gardening;-

Along side on my family farm we also grew a variety of veg that we kept for ourselves but also grew commercially. I have experience helping out on this with the planting, weeding and harvesting.
I also am enthusiastic about gardening and landscaping for the home as I took up this hobby during the pandemic. I did everything from mowing, planting flowerbeds, weeding, hedge cutting, etc. I'm really hoping to do more of this as I really enjoyed it.

Animal husbandry;-

This is probably the skill which I have the most experience. I grew up on a dairy and beef farm but we had a wide variety of other animals such as sheep, poultry, horses and donkeys. When I live at home I take on a lot of this responsibility to help out with my family. Some of the responsibilities include, feeding, herding, cleaning out sheds, taking care and looking out for sickness in animals, birthing, etc.
I've also had a wide variety of pets growing up so I'm well accustomed and experienced with them too. I'm currently missing my dogs back home !

Bicycle repairs;-

In my last job I worked as a bike mechanic in the Netherlands where there was no shortage of work! In my job I worked with a variety of tools and machinery. I gained great experience from this and has helped me to become more handy with repairs.

Cooking and baking;-

I love to cook! I really love to explore different cuisines and to play around with ingredients. At the moment I really like to cook Greek style food after I had a lovely holiday there during the summer. I also like the challenge of whipping up a meal from whatever is in the cupboard or fridge. I also have experience of cooking for different dietary requirements as I often cook for friends. I'm also a proficient baker, mainly the likes of cakes, buns and bread.My signature dish for now is shakshouka with a loaf of Irish soda bread.

Cleaning;-

I've a lot of experience in this as I've worked as a cleaner on and off for quite some time. I don't mind tackling a mess, I rather enjoy it actually! I also like to clean and organise a space to make it more comfortable and proficient.
