Hi! Thanks for checking out my profile. :)

My name is Kayla, and I'm currently completing a Master's of Occupational Therapy.

After graduation I hope to work as both a healthcare provider and researcher focusing on mental health and rural life. In terms of what motivates me - I want to make a positive difference in the world for people in stigmatized groups who may not be able to advocate for themselves.

I enjoy trail running and climbing, as these activities remind me of growing up in a rural space. Whenever I'm fortunate enough to be home I'm found on multi-day kayak trips down the local rivers. I feel happiest when I'm in nature. In my free time I also enjoy embroidering, reading, and playing bass guitar.

This summer, I hope to bring my passion for adventure and excitement towards learning new things to Australia. Specifically, Brisbane and various locations throughout Tasmania.

Quelles sont vos compétences ?

Growing up steps away from my parent's restaurant meant chores at home extended to chores at the restaurant! Until I was 14, you could find me in the dish pit, peeling potatoes, taking out garbage, and chatting up regulars. I strayed away from the front of house because I disliked how I was perceived as "cute"... I was quite the tomboy! Fast forward to high school, and I began hostessing when I was 17, and serving when I was 18. This continued until I was 21. I truly enjoy interacting with others and getting to know new people. I'm very outgoing and social, and tend to quickly make connections with others!

In high school I also enjoyed landscaping for a couple of summers, meaning I know how to throw some dirt around! I enjoy doing manual labour, as I can just "zone out" and focus on the task.

Most of my other experiences are related to personal training, 1:1 support for people with disabilities, or research. In undergrad I ran an adapted gym for over 100 community members with disabilities, which involved intense attention to detail, organizational skill, scheduling dozens of students and volunteers, training students on how to use adaptive equipment, using my incredible charm to connect with the participants, and overall - a ton of multi-tasking. I've created clubs, donation drives, annual fundraisers, all from the ground up. I love doing community work, and creating new programs when a gap exists. When I'm engaged in a community, I will do anything to see it thrive!

In working many jobs supporting people with mental illnesses and intellectual and/or physical disabilities, I pride myself on my communicative abilities. Doing this work has also made me a fast learner. I believe that this combination will allow me to excel in any position.

Overall, I am outgoing, passionate, and determined to succeed! I enjoy meeting new people and learning new things. If you have any questions about my abilities or experiences, don't hesitate to reach out!

As previously mentioned, I absolutely love the outdoors. I'm drawn to locations where I am explore, hike, and float on some sort of body of water.

I also am fond of any and all board games, most types of artistic expression, and a wide array of music.
