Hi! I’m Julia :) I have a ton of miscellaneous hobbies (mostly 3d art such as making stained glass panels, sculpting, and making miniatures). I’d love to be able to make a career/lifestyle out of something I enjoy doing :) I’m very interested in learning any new skills, but I’d especially like to learn more about agriculture and how to cultivate a chemical free garden and preserving food, as well as caring for livestock. I have a dream of homesteading one day and would love to learn what it takes to do that! I’m also looking forward to the prospect of making new connections with people and seeing more of the world than the small corner I’ve been able to explore thus far. Getting outside of my comfort zone is important to me, and I think workaway is the perfect opportunity to grow into myself as a person. Thank you in advance for any opportunity :)

I haven't ever taught a language before, but I'm a native English speaker and believe I could offer some help, even if I couldn't teach someone with no prior knowledge to speak fluently. I also know very very basic Spanish. It's been several years since my high school Spanish class, so I'm certainly rusty, but I know some basic phrases and vocabulary words and would love to become better at speaking and writing the language.

Quelles sont vos compétences ?

I studied at SCAD for a little over a year - I originally intended to go into architecture, but transferred into furniture design in my sophomore year, before I eventually had to cease schooling there because of the cost and COVID19. I learned the basics of using power tools at SCAD, as well as throughout my life because my dad works in construction. I took architecture courses for three years in high school, where I learned that I love drafting by hand, as well as using CAD programs. I'm a very fast learner, and I take pleasure in being as efficient as possible. I'm excellent at setting up organizational systems that are easy to maintain and use, such as organizing tools, art supplies, kitchenware, etc. I've worked in customer service as a front desk clerk at a hotel, as well as several restaurants. I love cooking, especially when it's a communal experience! I tend to eat mostly vegetarian food, but I can cook some meat as well! And when I say vegetarian, I don't mean boring salads - I've grown to love cooking food from different cultures, most notably Indian food, which is known to have tons and tons of delicious vegetarian options. Hispanic and Mediterranean cuisine are also top contenders for me. I love to make and build nearly anything - I have dozens of hobbies ranging from making stained glass panels to sculpting. I have reupholstered furniture, painted several rooms, and even done a small mural in my bedroom. I keep a few plants and know a bit about gardening, but I'd love to learn more! I used to own horses and goats so I know a bit about maintaining their health and surroundings, but since this was when I was younger, I'd need a bit of a refresher. I'd be more than happy to improve those abilities!! I'm excited to learn any new skills - jack of all trades is a master of none, but oftentimes better than a master of one, as the old saying goes!

I know the basics of jewelry smithing and would love to learn more, but, unfortunately, I recently had to move away from the studio I was using to learn. I enjoy taking photos on my film camera, but I certainly wouldn't call myself a professional - it's always a hit or miss whether the photos will turn out, but it's a fun hobby to pursue. I love experimenting with fashion and makeup, and thrifting is one of my favorite pastimes! I love to play board games, card games and strategy games, such as Clue, Monopoly, Rummy, Spades, and Rummikub. I don't play video games very often, but I have played Minecraft for about 12 years! I've also recently been loving cooperative games such as Overcooked and It Takes Two.
