Hello. I am Imelda from Northern Ireland. I love to travel & learn languages, meet new people, and exchange life stories and experience. I have a warm & friendly personality and get on well with people. I am also a mature, responsible & reliable person who likes to do tasks well. I enjoy volunteering as it allows me to immerse myself in a different way of life & explore different countries. I have just spent 4 months in Spain where I did two volunteer positions: one in a boutique hotel near Nerja, and the other doing a language / cultural exchange in Cuenca. I have an Irish passport and can work legally in the EU.

In terms of work history, I spent 20 years in government legal work in Northern Ireland. I then decided to change direction & travel / work abroad. I have volunteered several times through workaway and have also worked in the hospitality sector. My first three workaway placements were in Australia (6 months), Mallorca (1 year), and the south of France (5 months). In Australia, I worked in a heritage guesthouse in the Yarra Valley, outside Melbourne; in Mallorca, I assisted a French family with household tasks & taught English; and in France, I assisted a French family with housework & English. I also gave private English lessons.

My paid positions include working in St. Emilion, France in a boutique guesthouse (2 summer seasons); hospitality positions at home in Northern Ireland; 2 seasons in Jersey in a 4* hotel; one year working in a seaside hotel in south Devon; and 2 years working in a 4* hotel in Cornwall.

My most recent workaway roles were in Estepona (Sep '24 - Feb '25) where I helped with cooking, household chores, & walking the dogs; I taught English in Galicia (summer 2025); I worked in a small hotel near Nerja, helping with housekeeping & breakfast (Sep '25 - March '26); and I did a language exchange in Cuenca (March '26).

In addition to volunteering, I have travelled in many countries including the US, Canada, south-east Asia, South Africa, Australia & New Zealand. I have also spent one year teaching English in France for the British Council.

I have a full UK driving licence. I have been driving for nearly 40 years & have driven in many different countries. I also have experience of looking after pets.
