Hello there! My name is Ileen and I am from Amsterdam - right in between the canals - but recently exchanged the canals with the beaches of Australia! I absolutely fell in love with the country while studying there for a semester (2015) at QUT, Brisbane, and ever since I have loved to spend some more time in Australia.

Let me tell you a bit more about myself first. I love traveling, exploring new places and cultures, and have a deep love for animals and nature. My previous travels were mostly combined with studying, working and living abroad which I think is the way to discover a new place. During these experiences I have learned how much more valuable an experience abroad can be when learning and interacting with the people, learning about their livelihoods. In my personal time you’ll find me playing volleyball, crafting something (painting, jewelry, pottery and more!), or hiking and sailing on holidays. I am also an experienced dog/housesitter in which I combine my love for pets and exploring new places.

I have recently obtained a PhD degree in water / sustainability sector, and it is now time for me to move out of the academic world and (hopefully!) find a job in Australia. During this job search, I would love to learn and experience Aussie life with the help of a workaway. Helping people while settling in Australia, and getting to know their ways of living, is a perfect way to start of the new journey. As I have plentiful practical skills I am sure I can be off good use, while having a good time together! I get especially excited about farming and animals and don't mind getting my hands dirty. I would love to learn about permaculture, farming/gardening practices, animal care, and I am always happy to help around house, work on DIY projects and putting my hands to to work!

Quelles sont vos compétences ?

Five years ago I have done a complete renovation of our apartment together with my dad and boyfriend, enhancing my electricity, plumbing, carpentry skills and generally all handy tasks around the house! You can find a transformation photo of our bathroom in my photo gallery.

Generally I love DIY projects - I have crafted lamps, paintings, woodworking projects, pottery etc!

I am a researcher in the water/sustainability sector by profession, and have lots of (mostly theorical) knowledge about this - would love to put some of that into practice!
