  • Description

📍 Arriving in Vancouver on November 18 – exploring the city for 1–2 weeks, then spending the next few months around Vancouver / Vancouver Island, looking for a paid job or Workaways in this area.

Hi, my name is Alwin. :)

My friends describe me as an easy-going and open-minded person who is easy to talk to. I enjoy connecting with people and having conversations about almost anything. I care deeply about my family and friends and look forward to sharing stories about my adventures with them.

I grew up in rural Germany, which gave me an appreciation for nature and a curiosity about other cultures and ways of life. I completed a three-year carpentry apprenticeship in Germany, but since then, I haven’t worked as a carpenter very often. I’m excited to refresh my skills, gain new experiences, and learn different techniques while helping out wherever needed.

A few years ago, I had the chance to do a Work and Travel trip in New Zealand, where I gained experience in a variety of areas, including construction, gardening, and general maintenance. That journey taught me a lot about adapting to new environments and working with people from different backgrounds.

In my free time, I enjoy spending time with friends, playing video games, and attending concerts or festivals. I’m also looking forward to exploring Canada, combining Workaway opportunities with regular jobs to gain more experience and meet new people along the way.

  • Quelles sont vos compétences ?

After finishing school, I did a 2-year apprenticeship as an information technical assistant.
Since I needed some time to figure out what I wanted to do with my life, I worked as a care worker for elderly people and people with special needs.

There, I realized that I wanted to do something a bit more hands-on, so I completed a 3-year apprenticeship to become a carpenter. I learned to build furniture, kitchens, built-in cupboards, sideboards, and how to use the machinery needed to achieve crafted woodworks.

Before heading to New Zealand, I spent time renovating my flat and working as a machine operator in a factory that produces fruit juices.

A few years ago, I had the opportunity to do a Work and Travel trip in New Zealand. Throughout my stay, I took on different jobs that required flexibility and problem-solving, allowing me to gain hands-on experience in new fields. Living and working with people from diverse backgrounds not only improved my practical skills but also broadened my perspective on different ways of life.

After returning from New Zealand, I worked as a machine operator and supervisor and spent a short time as a janitor.
