  • Description

My name is Hanna Szarlej-Lentz and I am Polish-American. I was born in Poland but moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania when I was 4 years old. I was raised in a bilingual environment which allowed me to speak both Polish and English fluently. My family and I would go back to Poland every summer, stopping at countries in Europe along the way. I have visited over 12 countries which has opened my eyes to new cultures and experiences. Because of these amazing opportunities, I wanted to learn more.

For my last year of high school, I did an exchange program where I went to a French high school for 6 months. This has taught me exactly how French teenagers live and I was able to experience it first-hand! I lived with a host family that had a teenage daughter my age and we had an amazing time. I decided that after graduating high school in America I would travel across the sea to Ireland and study French at the University College Dublin. I lived there for 3 years and had such an amazing experience. Now, I am a recent graduate with a major in both French and Spanish. I travelled there because they are well known for their Erasmus program in the 3rd year of college, which fits perfectly with my desire to travel to France. I did my Erasmus in Lille which gave me a whole year in France.

With these experiences, I decided I needed to see more. I have experiences with many cultures, but why not learn more? I am dedicated to understanding the world around me by travelling, as I belive that is the best way. Conenction with other people is so important to me.

As you can already tell by my description, travelling is what brings me happiness. I want to see more, and I think being able to help people out will give me a purpose. I love to help and I am very energetic. If you put me to work I will make sure to make the most out of it!

I have always had an interest in languages, coming from a bilingual household. Being a native English speaker, I have realized how muchch potential I have for teaching people Emglish as well as how easy it can be to learn another one knowing Polish.

  • Quelles sont vos compétences ?

As stated in my profile description, I have travelled since I was a child. I wanted to continue travelling and I am glad that I pursued my dreams. I understand how grateful I am to have already had these experiences. While I was at University and on Erasmus, I was lucky enough to teach French students English. We had a program at our university which was like pen pals in real life. This gave me the skill to act responsibly and understand the importance of teaching. I developed strong communication, and interpersonal skills while helping students improve their language proficiency. I created and delivered structured lessons designed to their proficiency levels while maintaining a fun way of learning. This would include learning through music, film and books. My students and I (now I can say my good friends!) would go out in Dublin together (which many tutors did not do), doing activities such as karaoke nights, game nights, and comedy shows! Working closely with international students allowed me to gain a deeper cross-cultural understanding, as I adapted my teaching methods to accommodate different learning styles. I learned patience and adaptability, adjusting my approach when students encountered difficulties. We were able to form a super special bond and I think important.
