Description

Hello everyone! My name is Gaia, I’m a 24-year-old designer from Italy who loves travelling, meeting new people and discovering new cultures. People describe me as a cheerful person that is very hardworking, reliable and responsible. I am always down for an adventure. I am sociable but I also value my alone time.
After a year of working a corporate job I decided to take a break and explore the world. I’m passionate about cultural exchange and want to live like a local, not a tourist. I see Workaway as a chance to learn while giving something back.

I'm an active person, I love to spend time in nature, I especially love going to the beach, swimming and surfing but I also love skiing and hiking in the mountains. Basically, I love anything that involves being outdoors!
I love talking to new people and seeing different points of view on life, I am very friendly and usually get along with everyone as long as there is mutual respect. I like to hear about other people’s life experiences because I believe that we all can learn from others, especially from people who grew up in a different cultural environment than ours.

Travelling has always been part of my life. When I was 16, I went to study for 10 months in Sydney, Australia and it has been, hands down, the best experience of my life because it made me mature and I learnt so much not only about the world but also about myself. It taught me to be independent, to count on myself and to overcome problems. I also lived 6 months in Valencia, Spain to attend university. For the past two years I have been living and working in Barcelona, where I got to perfect my spanish. One of my favourite trips was Morocco, what caught me was seeing the cultural and lifestyle differences of the people living there. I spent hours talking to the berbers who live in the desert and it was such an eye-opening experience.

I am an easy going and flexible person, I adapt very easily. I don’t have any specific needs other than meeting open-minded and fun people to be friends with :)

Quelles sont vos compétences ?

One of my strongest skill is languages, I can fluently speak Italian, Spanish and English and German at an intermediate level, I have worked as a translator and in hotels as a receptionist.

I am a very practical person and I love creating things with my hands. I am specifically good at art and anything that involves being creative. I have a master's degree in Design and have been working as a designer for the past year, where I handled projects of packaging, marketing and retail design. If you want, I can send you my art portfolio for you to see. I also paint, sculpt with clay and sew clothes.

In the past I have worked with children as an animator, I have some skills in agriculture since my family owns several apple orchids, I grew up around them and every year I would help pick them.
I am also everyone’s aesthetician, I do my mom’s and friend’s nails, makeup and hair, I cut my dad’s hair, I wax my friends’ moustaches and so on… they all come to me for some reason hahhah
A couple years ago I helped my dad to paint his auto-repair shop, it was very challenging because the place is very big but it came out very nicely and it was also so much fun.

Being Italian, I can cook the many dishes of our cuisine such as pasta, pizza, lasagne, risotto, ravioli… also, ever since I have been living abroad, I learnt to cook dishes from other cousines, for example arepas (venezuelan/colombian), shakshuka, kaftha bi tahini (lebanese), rice dumplings...

I have a special love for animals and I would love to be in contact with them during my experience.

On top of that, I really love to learn new skills and I usually do very quickly, so I won’t have a hard time adjusting to your requests!
