Description

My name is Declan, a 19 year old from a small sleepy town in the South West of England. While I've come to be very grateful for living in the lovely countryside, from a young age I have always been incredibly fascinated by other cultures and exploring new places.

At the present, I have decided to take a gap year out of my studies before I go back to study in September. I want to use this time to explore new places, meet new people but also gain as many different skills as possible. I'm starting my trip in Nepal on my own where I plan to partake in different Workaways as I explore the country, and then I will move on to other countries in Malaysia. While I have no problem being on my own, I also love to meet others.

I studied French throughout high school, selecting it as one of my three A-level subjects for my final exams. Since graduating, I’ve remained eager to maintain and further develop my French, and would be interested in language exchange.

Quelles sont vos compétences ?

During my teenage years, I’ve gained hands-on experience in the hospitality sector, working in a variety of roles, from kitchen hand to front-of-house. Recently, I’ve expanded my skills by assisting a friend’s business, diving into areas like social media content creation and inventory logistics. I thrive in team environments, enjoy collaborating with others, and am always eager to learn new skills and take on fresh challenges.

Although I don’t have specific expertise in areas like gardening or general maintenance, I’m always eager to learn and willing to be guided through any task. I’m committed to improving my abilities and adapting to different environments, and have always been keen to help my family around the house with various jobs from painting to DIY.

I was fortunate to attend a high school that offered incredible opportunities to develop my organisational and communication skills. Notably, I tutored younger students in French and set up a Politics club to engage younger years in meaningful activities on various topics. I would therefore say my key strengths lie in my ability to organise projects, but more importantly, in engaging with others and offering help and guidance wherever possible.
