Hello, I'm Austin!
I'm a 28 year old man from Western Australia who has spent much of his life travelling and found it to be one of my true passions.
While new to Workaway, I've definitely had my fair share of adventurous travel experiences. As the son of an airline pilot, I spent two years living in Taiwan at age 7 - 9, with no knowledge of the language and very little of the culture before I arrived. I remember very fondly climbing the mountain trail to school behind our apartment and encountering all kinds of interesting wildlife - my favourite were the gigantic tiger millipedes and the macaques!
On my latest trip, I travelled alone throughout Europe by train, spending time in beautiful towns and cities from Lyon, France all the way to Zagreb, Croatia. The Journey was over two months and is now my most cherished memory - I met Latvian filmmakers, German football fans, and Viennese policemen, and saw sights like beautiful light shows in Berlin, the gorgeous mountains of Puy-Saint-Vincent, and the incredible Egyptian Museum in Turin.
Here in my home city I am a youth worker, currently as the head coach for a number of young children's sport programs, though I've also worked as a speech pathology assistant, a landscaper, a private driver, as well as a booking agent for local musicians. Of all my jobs, I have found working with children to be the most rewarding - their minds are so quick to bring distracted adults back to the joy of the world.
I'm a friendly character who relishes the chance to meet new people and expand my view of the world. I believe we gain the most in our lives by sharing the experiences and cultures of others with our own.
In Perth, I share a home with two roommates who I am very close to and love to call up and share my journeys with while on my travels. We aren't allowed pets in our rental home, though we've all had and loved cats and dogs in the past (as well as lizards for myself), so I am a huge fan of getting to spend time with animals whenever I can.
My hobbies have always bounced around throughout the years, but I've always been extremely partial to writing - be it through journalling, music, or in short stories. I'm also very fond of languages, largely thanks to my travels, and am currently looking to explore Spanish.

I'm currently learning Spanish and would love to achieve fluency as soon as I can, it's early days at the moment but it's something I'm very excited about! I also have a basic understanding of some Japanese and enjoy practicing it when given the opportunity.

Quelles sont vos compétences ?
- I'm experienced in caring for and teaching children, and have spent several years of my life doing so,
- I keep a tidy home and am always willing to perform household duties as well as light maintenance,
- I'm a lover of animals and have plenty of practice looking after them (I've had cats, dogs and even lizards!),
- I've spent time working as a gardener and am very comfortable in the outdoors,
- I adore writing, and have considerable experience writing copy and marketing packets (as well as things that are more on the creative side!)

I was taught chess by my father at a young age and always enjoy a relaxed game with some nice company, I have a rather large cactus collection (~50 plants), and I love cooking my roommates a tasty meal!
