Hi!!
My name is Alula and I'm from Los Angeles, CA! I just graduated my bachelors in Media and Culture in Amsterdam. I am traveling for a couple months through Chile before I start my masters and am looking for a workaway or two while I'm there :).
I am an outgoing, creative, hardworking, curious person! I recently developed a love for plants and want to learn as much about permaculture, sustainable food systems and gardening as I can. I grew up around animals; riding horses and hiking with my dogs. I love being outside as much as I can and away from my phone as long as possible. I want to take the opportunity during my travels to do just that!
Fundamentally I am always drawn to creative and artistic outlets. I studied film analysis in my bachelors and took a minor in Musicology. So I love anything having to do with people, the way they interact, make art, and how that connects to history and culture. However, I would say music has my heart. You can find me groovin' to all different types of music like Nina Simone (my absolute all time fav), Erykah Badu, JJ Cale, and recently Celine Dessberg. I love going to museums, reading, collaging, laying in the park with my friends and dancing!!!
I have done a workaway before where I had to take care of animals, help around the house, do yard work, and upkeep the garden. I'm looking to get my hands dirty and to be outside as much as possible :)! -

I have always been very interested in learning languages.I grew up speaking German and English. I took Spanish in highschool and am eager to improve. Over the last few years I have also been learning Dutch! -

Quelles sont vos compétences ?
I had my first workaway experience in September 2022! I stayed at a B and B/cooking school in northern Italy for two weeks. During my time there I got up every morning to feed the animals and water the plants on the property. During the day I would work in the garden, rake, fix up small things around the farm, etc. I would also wash the dishes and help clean the kitchen after every meal, as well as help with food prep for cooking classes.
I have started gardening and am learning about how to cultivate food and flowers over the last couple years and have started a community garden at my workplace. I enjoy cooking and love trying out new vegetarian dishes.
Overall I love working with my hands! I can help with small outdoor maintenance work, gardening, and housework!
Additionally, I have a lot of experience with working with children. I have volunteered at a tutoring program as well as a mental health app for teens. I have been babysitting for 7 years and additionally have been working in hospitality since I was 16.
Creatively, I have worked on a few student films as well as filming my own documentary project. I produce a couple radio shows in Amsterdam and I have some experience with photography. I can help teach these skill and am am always interested in learning more about visual art! -

I love doing anything artistic! I am an avid collager, and am learning how to knit and make pottery. I love going to the beach to watch the sunset, writing and reading poetry, and am a huge fan of kombucha. Most of my clothes are thrifted and I am very passionate about reducing my carbon footprint as much as possible.
