Hi I am Isla!
I am a UK women, currently staying with a brilliant first Workaway host in Slovenia. I have been here 5 weeks, on two separate occasions, and we have done so much. At the moment I wake at 0600, and we shovel new snowfall from around the house, pathways and the car parking area. By 0700 I have greeted, watered and fed the chickens as this is around the time they wake up. After, I/we walk the dog across the fields to the nearby village. Once we are back I prepare Turkish coffee and a cooked breakfast for us all (me, host and the other Workawayer).
Then onto projects!
I have helped restore the interior of an old Landrover Defender deep cleaned, removed seats, de-rusted, repainted and installed roof rack and light protectors.
We wheelbarrowed stone and earth over several days to re-landscape the garden (before the snow came).
Using the sewing machine I created 5 cushions to precisely fit a space to acoustically insulate part of the house from the other.
I started here knowing nothing about plumbing but we worked out how to change the flush mechanism on the toilet.
I regularly clean out the chicken coop let the chickens out and coax them back in in the evenings.
The host here is a Wim Hof method instructor, meaning she owns a freezer and barrel of cold water for cold dips so I clean /refill those regularly. And I am now into cold immersions.
Time off has been amazing, learning snowboard which I now love, and cross country skiing with the host and other Workawayer, and going on huge snowy hikes to kocas (Slovenian mountain huts serving heartwarming home cooked food). And SUPing on the lake here, it’s such a beautiful feeling. And I’ve got into Barista coffee making and latte art taught to me by the other Workawayer here.
I’ve very much enjoyed participating in my local community by each year running a stall at the church’s Christmas fete, coaching judo warm up to young people, helped kids with reading who found it more difficult. For 4 years I was voted advocate for student affairs. I have worked in hospitality at fundraising events, funeral wakes and corporate parties. I have also worked for a year, during my school days, as server/kitchen porter in a fish and chip shop, as well as serving drinks behind a bar at the social club.
I am very interested in developing my current interests which are yoga and sailing
I love trying to find octopuses whilst snorkelling and filming under water with my Go Pro. I also love fishing (rivers) but I’d love to be sea/ ocean fishing.
And I love festivals, glitter and dancing with my friends. Ive spent weeks camping and each night i like to spend hours watching the meteor showers and finding Andromeda and Triangulum galaxy through binoculars.

Quelles sont vos compétences ?

I like to cook for example pumpkin and feta quiches. I love to look after animals e.g dog sitting and have looked after chickens including cleaning out their coops.
I have worked in many different hospitality roles so I have customer service skills as well as occasional bar work experience. Ive worked in a kitchen so have strong understanding of hygiene standards. I have used a drill for home DIY projects and have hands on skills. Previous work I have completed while house sitting includes shovelling snow, sewing cushions for sound insulation and general cleaning.
I study environmental science and love plants and wildlife so helping with eco projects and gardening gives me fulfillment.

I love learning new card games and playing board games. I love biology and environmental science. I like to do my friends hair and nails and I am interested in studying beauty therapy in the future. As well as getting sailing qualifications.
