  • Description

    Hi, I'm Tom.
A 24 year old lad from Felixstowe, Suffolk (on the east coast of England). I have done plenty of travelling within the UK incuding all the way from Lands End the most South-Westerly point, up to Northern Scotland and everywhere inbetween but am looking to travel more around Europe. I am a lover of change, gaining new skills and having new experiences whilst meeting new people. I'm motivated by making a difference to others and find that helping others and sharing my knowledge is one of the things I most enjoy doing.

I moved out of home age 20 after two years working or the NHS (National Health Service) as a lab assistant. Since then I have lived in West Wales for three years at university, spent a year in Birmingham as an environmental consultant and have spent three summers living in Devon (South West of England) working in a warehouse. I enjoy physical work that keeps my body fit, healthy, strong and stimulated. I also enjoy engaging and insightful conversations that keep my mind active and keep me sociable. I'm very laid back when allowed to be and find myself happy doing pretty much anything that is new as I find no new experience to be a bad one! I'm happiest when outside in a nature or doing sport and am in awe of those who live self-sufficient/ nomadic lifestyles and who grow their own food. Despite lacking artistic talent myself, I absolutely love to listen to live music and I find festivals/ carnivals/ street performances to be incredibly great fun to watch. Simply put, seeing other people happy makes me happy :)

Now I have finished university i'm someone that is looking to 'see the world'! Certainly my overseas travelling to date is somewhat limited and I am extremely looking forward to visiting more places over the next few years before possibly exploring a career related to my geography degree (although i'm sure i'll never get too settled). I am looking to do some of my travelling through Workaway as I believe it is an incredible platform that allows individuals to truly have unique experiences whilst travelling, and opens up the world for those involved. It gives a chance for free thinking individuals to share knowledge, culture and experience whilst lending each other a hand. It is an awesome way to meet people you would otherwise never in your life get to meet, and that is what i'm most excited about! I have done WWOOF before (which is a similar platform) but only in Scotland, and I absolutely LOVED it! I find it very easy to get along with people and really just enjoy having meaning to my day and being able to help someone out. Combine this with travelling abroad and I genuinely could't think of anything that I could want to do more!

If you have any questions about me please don't be afraid to ask, i'll answer anything! Thanks for checking out my profile and I hope to see you soon!
    All the best,
    Tom :)

  • Quelles sont vos compétences ?

I'm a fit and able-bodied, tall, young(ish) lad. I have some experiencing with gardening as part of a friends business, as well as when WWOOFing and have experience working on my feet for long hours whilst engaging in lifting and other physical activities. My physical ableness is one of my best skills and one of the ones that I would most like to utilise. I also have some general DIY skills and experience and I used to help a disabled lady with work on her caravan (laying patio slabs, putting a curtain up, putting furniture together etc.) during my second year of university. I would be more than happy to assist in DIY projects as well as farming duties whilst on a workaway placement.

I run quite alot (I do parkrun), and during unviersity I was captain and league organiser of my sunday football team (and league), as well as mens handball club organiser and captain. As well as keeping me fit and sporty, I gained lots of leadership and organisational experience in these roles. I am also a very able swimmer who used to compete competitively up to the age of 14 and I have done many other sports over the years too.

Through my A-Levels, NHS laboratory job, degree and my year in industry I have limited specialised knowledge of some areas of science and geography. This includes topics such as blood testing and clinical results interpretation, land drainage and water management, the carbon cycle, soils, animal and plant biology, GIS mapping techniques etc.

Since aged 7 I have been an uncle, and am now an uncle to three boys and two girls of varying ages (1 - 18 years old) having had to help home school them during covid, and regularly babysitting them I am good with children, able to get along them with most children incredibly as well as being able to look after them and help them grow and develop.

I also enjoy cooking for myself trying out new recepies and meals often just freestyling it and seeing what works rather than googling or using a recepie book. I volunteered for a few months with a charity called 'Foodcycle' where we cooked meals for vulnerable people using food that was about to be wasted. It was an incredible project and really rewarding!

I am fairly socially skilled being an outgoing person, I have previously helped international students with their english whilst working in the warhouse in Devon as well as during my time at university and I enjoy having cross-cultural conversations.
