Hello! I'm Toby, I'm 24 years old and I come from the UK.

I came across Workaway recently when researching interesting travel opportunities, to me Workaway represents an in between full blown travelling and a holiday. I've always been someone who takes pride in my work and likes to keep busy, which is why when I first came across Workaway I couldn't stop imagining myself in each and every one of the opportunities on the website, learning different skills and meeting new people. Everything sounded so cool to me and the opportunity to not only learn about someones life, how they live, their culture but actually immerse yourself by doing these things really appealed to me.

The simple things in life bring me happiness, the act of learning something, of doing something. I find that the journey is the most impactful thing and during my time at university I look back fondly on those long days spent in the libraries spent with friends studying even though at the time I wouldn't have believed it. This is in essence what I want from my Workaway experience, to have a hand in someone else's journey and them be a small part of mine. Reading about people passions and desires to create many different projects really inspires me to get out there and see more of the world for myself.

I've recently just finished my time at university and I have loved life during these past four years although lots of the work has involved computers and my work going forward will be the same. I want to really take an opportunity this summer to get away from the world of constant social connection and really learn to enjoy and how to live a simple life which I think is what people need the most in these times. I really like the idea of waking up early and tending to the land to then enjoy an afternoon reading a book or going on a walk to discover a beautiful landscape.

Quelles sont vos compétences ?

I've worked as a barback (which involves helping bartenders throughout the day) during the holidays for the past 3 years and have worked in hospitality extensively in different positions so I'm no stranger to hard work and manual labour and safe technique through working with heavy kegs of beer. I've just received my Master's degree in physics so I would say I can sometime provide a unique perspective on problems and how to solve them although I'm mainly taking part in Workaway to learn and appreciate a life which doesn't need constant problem solving, I guess I'll find out later depending on the Workaway experience!

I love reading and I'm always looking for new book recommendations - particularly Sci-Fi! I love sports (mostly playing) particularly football and have been playing most of my life. I love games of all kind whatever they be board games etc. I have a passion for cooking, I love watching and reading about chefs like Anthony Bourdain as he
often showcases how food and culture are so intertwined and how we can be so different but we all sit down together at the dinner table, I would love to be able to help out with cooking
if possible and learn.
