    Description

I’m looking for kind, reliable people who enjoy gardening, light outdoor projects, and helping around the home. Some light housekeeping is appreciated as well.

I also care for a family member living with dementia, so part of the role is simply being a friendly, patient presence. This may include having a cup of tea, chatting, going for a short walk, or keeping them company while I work on projects nearby. No personal care or medical experience is required, just kindness, patience, and a good sense of humour.

If you enjoy nature, quiet evenings, learning new skills, and being part of a genuine home rather than a commercial business, you’ll probably feel right at home here. There are opportunities to learn about gardening, small building projects, off-grid living, and exploring the incredible beauty of Haida Gwaii.

I value open communication, mutual respect, and people who are happy to pitch in while also enjoying the slower pace of island life.

Staying on Haida Gwaii is an experience in itself. You’ll have the opportunity to experience the incredible forests, beaches, wildlife, and slower pace of island life. I enjoy sharing local knowledge, hidden beaches, hiking trails, and some of my favourite places around the islands whenever time allows.

I love meeting people from different cultures and hearing about their lives, traditions, and travels. We can share meals, stories over coffee or around the fire, and learn from one another.

If you’re interested, I’m happy to share what I’ve learned about gardening, off-grid living, simple building projects, cooking, and creating a peaceful homestead. I’m also an Educational Assistant, so I enjoy meaningful conversations and learning from people with different backgrounds and experiences.

My hope is that everyone leaves having learned something new, made a genuine connection, and experienced the beauty and welcoming spirit of Haida Gwaii.

  • Aide

    Aide

I’m looking for friendly, dependable people who enjoy being outdoors and don’t mind getting their hands dirty. Most of the help will be gardening, weeding, planting, watering, mowing, trimming, light landscaping, stacking firewood, and helping keep the property looking beautiful.

Inside the home, I’d appreciate help with light housekeeping such as vacuuming, sweeping, dishes, laundry, and general tidying.

I also care for a family member living with dementia. This is companionship only, sharing a cup of tea, chatting, playing cards, going for a short walk, or simply spending time together while I work on other projects. There is no personal care or medical assistance required.

Every day is a little different, so flexibility and a positive attitude are appreciated. If you enjoy nature, working as part of a team, and contributing to a peaceful homestead, you’ll fit in well here. There’s also the opportunity to learn about gardening, simple building projects, and off-grid island living.

English is my first language, and I’d love to learn a few words and phrases from your language and culture while sharing mine. I enjoy meeting people from around the world, hearing their stories, and learning about different traditions, foods, and ways of life. If English isn’t your first language, I’m happy to chat and help you practise in a relaxed, everyday setting over coffee, meals, or while we’re working together. I believe the best language learning happens naturally through conversation, laughter, and shared experiences.

Workawayers will have a private bedroom with a locking door for comfort and privacy. The room has direct access to an outdoor deck where you can relax and enjoy the peaceful surroundings.

The home sits on a lush 10-acre hillside property with beautiful ocean views in every direction. It’s a quiet place to unwind, enjoy nature, and experience the beauty of Haida Gwaii.

You’ll have access to high-speed Wi-Fi, laundry facilities, a shared bathroom with a large soaking tub, and all the comforts of home. Meals include a light breakfast, lunch, and a home-cooked dinner each day, along with coffee, tea, and plenty of good conversation.

My goal is for you to feel comfortable, well-fed, and truly at home while enjoying an unforgettable stay on the islands.

Animal lovers are especially welcome! We have two friendly cats (1 yr old brother and sister) owho live in the house, so unfortunately the accommodation isn’t suitable for anyone with cat allergies. We also have two wonderful dogs who patrol the property and may stop by to say hello, although they don’t live inside the house.

    Sage Ferdinand (5 ans)

Sage is the kindest, sweetest friendliest guy. He’s a chocolate lab with girl energy. He lives to play ball and teaches us all how to love better.

    Olive Florence (5 ans)

Olive is our guard dog and is quite the character. She is a mixed breed black lab. It takes a little bit to get to know her but once you do, you will love her. Also, the dogs don’t live at the main house where a guest would be staying, so if terrified of dogs. I can also keep them away. I usually take Sage and Olive to the beach every day and you would certainly be welcome to join us on some of those days. I’ll post some pictures once I figure it out cause it’s not allowing me to post any more pictures right now.

    Rosemary (1 an)

Rosemary is a sister to Basil, and it’s also extremely sweet and loving. She smaller but is far more independent than Basil and loves to be outside unless the weather is really poor. They are working cats and do a wonderful job.

    Basil (1 an)

Little male cat, very sweet and gentle. If the weather is nice he likes to be outside.IF it’s poor weather he likes to snuggle down in one of his beds. He is kept out of the spare room and we have hardwood floors to keep the dust and dander away. Basil and his sister Rosemary are very close and Basil is the mostly gray cat with the least amount of white
