Description
Hello, my name is Pauline, I'm 20 (21 this summer) years old and I study geography in Louvain-la-Neuve in Belgium. I've done workaway and woofing for the last 2 summers and my project for the summer 2026 (very end of June to very begining of September) is to travel for ~10 weeks across Scandinavia (Norway, Sweden, Denmark) and stop at places for ~ 1.5 to 3 weeks. I'd like to stop at each place with a different friend (we're open to meet new people there and not just stay together) but I'm also open to meet a travel buddy on workaway :)

I'm currently part of a small collective that promotes voluntary simplicity (decluttering of the superfluous and refocusing on the essentials by building humans connections) among the student community. We do this by exploring alternative ways of living, raising awarness about overconsumption and promoting well-being.

I like to make time to connect with people, question our society and make sure that everyone's needs and limits are respected. I try to get informed and involved in environmental and social struggle. I've recently started climbing and really like it, I love to do embroidery and origami or just or pimp my clothes. I like to organize projects and spend time in nature with animals.

Since I'll go through several hosts I don't have a specific idea of what I'd want, it could go from farming in the middle of nowhere to cooking in a house in a big city. But I'm typically not attracted to projects that involve a lot of noise or children. I'd like to go to at least one place that has the midnight sun.

Quelles sont vos compétences ?
I can help for the cooking, I'm used to cook vegan dishes for my roomates (~10 people).

I rode horses for many years when I was a child and I still help at the stables and volunteered on a farm a few years ago so I can help with basic stable/farm work such as easy fixing fences, cleaning buckets, preparing food,...

I can help in the garden or in the house (cleaning, tidying up,...) but I'd prefer not to spend the whole stay picking up vegetables.

I'm a fast learner so I can help with a lot of things and adapt, I would love learn more about repairing things.

I'd love to organize projects (thinking about what has to be done when, what things we need,...) as it's something I do very often in my collective, and I'm pretty skilled at thinking every detail.

I stayed 1 month in Kunja and I absolutely LOVED it, I felt part of the community and I could actually consider coming back here in the future !

The work was light (only 4 hours 4 days a week, that's amazing !) and I really felt like on vacation. I could manage my hours as I wanted, moving them on another day, working when I felt like it. Almost… read more every day was different and the the work was varied, from moving strawberries in the garden, painting a bathroom to cleaning the main house or organizing shelves. They were able to accomodate my needs ( for exemple I attract horse flies so much, and I asked not to work near the lake, wich was absolutely not a problem) and as time went by I got more independence to the point that people came up to me when they had questions about what was happening in the common house ahah. In the end I was the last workawayer of the season and I almost felt like they had to search jobs for me so I think I left at the perfect time.

I stayed in a wooden caravan wich was maybe not the most cosy but as I mainly stayed in the main house, the workawayer's hanging spot, that was not a problem. We always more than enough food and when we needed something they almost immediatly got it for us. The families did not always cook for us, though they did provide ingredients, but I don't mind cooking so that was not a problem for me. The kitchen is very clean and quite modern, and we were the only one using it, which made cooking a pleasure. I would say the only downside is that you don't eat with the families (but maybe it's because we were several workawayers, actually when I was alone I was invited to eat with one the families, and I get that it's a lot more work to host 3-4 people when you already have your own children) and even on communal meal you would only see 3-4 people actually eating with you. That being said we formed a nice group of 3-4 workawayers and we got along pretty well so I did not feel left out, we mostly stayed together but if I had been alone the whole time I would have gone to people a lot more, and when you come to them they are actually quite open and discuss their stories and how they got here, and they're always around looking after their kids so you actually have a lot of opportunities to talk with them.

When I was there they organized a retreat with a Mexican shaman and even though I didn't participate it was really enriching to hear the participant's experience and feel the vibe of the retreat. With the train you can easily go to Svendborg or Odense, but other than that there isn't that much to do around, you can also try hitchhiking to one the island, so I was glad to be part of a group so that could chat, play boardgames, regroup around the fire or even use the sauna (amazing !). When I was there, for a few days we were 3 people from the same town in Belgium so that was good coincidence and really funny !

I really enjoyed the 4 weeks I spend here, the people and the talks, the ecursions with the other workawayers, the independence, the trust and the chill vibe, the varied work, the environment (lake and trees all around) and the time I got to reflect on myself. Thank you Kunja for all these moments !
