Description
About us
We are Julien (36) and Yoana (32), a couple who have been travelling and volunteering together for several years, primarily in agricultural, agro-tourism, and eco-resort settings. We are currently semi-nomadic and planning WorkAway stays for the coming months, ideally from spring onward.
Julien was born and raised in rural Germany, in a quiet landscape of fields, forests, and small villages. Growing up close to land and craft shaped a strong appreciation for manual work, exploration, and learning by doing. Yoana has lived and worked in Bulgaria for most of her life and brings a strong artistic, theatrical, and interpersonal background into everything she does.
We usually look for stays of two weeks to one month, with a month being ideal when the exchange feels mutually enriching. We are flexible, reliable, and value clear communication on both sides.
How we work as a couple
We function well both working side by side and splitting responsibilities. Often, dividing tasks according to strengths works best, but we are equally comfortable tackling projects together when needed.
In communal or guest-facing environments, we are both comfortable interacting with people and contributing to a welcoming atmosphere. There is no fixed “leader” between us; we balance each other well and adapt easily to different settings, teams, and rhythms of work.
We are not looking for party-heavy environments or long-term childcare roles, especially with very young children. We are, however, comfortable engaging with older children and teenagers when appropriate.
Julien
Julien has spent much of his life working in service-oriented and hands-on roles. He worked for several years as a paramedic and rescue swimmer, experiences that fostered calmness under pressure, teamwork, adaptability, and a strong sense of responsibility.
He enjoys working with wood, clay, stone, and general handiwork, and has a particular passion for pottery. He runs his own pottery workshop and has experience crafting, firing, and experimenting with functional and sculptural ceramics. Sculpting in wood and stone is another long-term practice, rooted in patience, observation, and respect for material.
Julien also has extensive experience in farming and permaculture, including planting, harvesting, soil work, and general farm maintenance. Working with land and food systems is something he values deeply.
Cooking and nutrition are important parts of his daily life. He enjoys preparing healthy, nourishing meals and contributing to shared kitchens, communal meals, and food-related projects.
He is musically inclined (singing, including overtone/throat singing) and physically active, with experience working with young people in educational and sports-related contexts.
Yoana
Yoana is an artist and theatre practitioner, primarily focused on painting, but also deeply involved in performance and collaborative creative processes. She has participated in theatre productions for many years and continues to do so, often working as part of a collective or ensemble rather than in a solitary role.
She has experience with workshops, theatre facilitation, and creative work in communal or guest-oriented environments, and is well adapted to working with people from very different cultural and social backgrounds.
Yoana speaks Bulgarian and English fluently, has a working knowledge of German, and understands some Italian. She has a strong sensitivity to group dynamics and individual behavior, and brings awareness, presence, and adaptability into shared living and working situations.
Her artistic work is well suited to environments that value creativity, expression, and human connection, whether through visual art, performance, or collaborative projects.
What we offer
Together, we bring:
Reliability, adaptability, and a strong work ethic
Experience in agriculture, eco-tourism, hospitality, and manual labor
Artistic and creative skills (visual art, theatre, craft)
Comfort in both physical work and people-facing roles
Calmness under pressure and respect for shared spaces
A genuine interest in meaningful exchange rather than transactional volunteering
We value environments where function and beauty, work and reflection, and individual contribution and collective effort go hand in hand. If our paths align, we’re happy to contribute our skills, energy, and presence with openness and care.
