  • Description

Our life plan for the foreseeable future is to see the world as a local. We love to experience new places and have new adventures, but we always try to plan away from the high tourist dates and traffic areas. Now that our kids have begun their adult lives, we are on our journey to achieve this. We learned about WWOOF a couple years ago and thought there was no better way to see how a local lives than to live and work where their food comes from. We spent our first kid-free summer in remote Alaska for 3 months learning about and helping to support their greenhouse and sustenance lifestyle and it was an unforgettable experience. While we were there,we learned about workaway and are now utilizing both platforms to support our travels and desires.

We both love learning new skills and increasing our depth of knowledge and application on current skills. We had careers in a corporate office environment and have been relishing our time in nature, both recreationally and for various types of volunteer manual labor work. In addition to our time in Alaska, we have assisted the owners of a local CSA farm we were members of in preparing their fields, planting, and general maintenance, we have worked with our state trail association to clean up hiking trails, we have helped friends with various projects including painting, flooring, yard work, deck building, moving heavy things, decorating, and organizing (including how to let go of 'stuff').

We both tend to think in terms of efficiency. We can and will work however you'd like us to, but if we have an idea on how something could be done quicker, remove unnecessary or duplicate steps, or just create a little ease, we'll bring it to your attention and see what you think. We also have no problem working with minimal guidance. One of our favorite learnings from Alaska is "piciatun" which translates to "any old way." In a remote village, we couldn't just order a part or piece of equipment and have it show up the next day and there wasn't a mechanic shop or plumber or even a grocery store so often times if something wasn't working, we just had to figure it out and get creative with what we had available to us.

Scott truly enjoys playing music with others and will certainly be travelling with a guitar or two. He was a part of a 6 piece band for over a decade and has also played with a duo, trio, quartet, and individually! He's had the absolute honor of playing with musicians in a variety of venues and hopes to grow that list.

Tina enjoys cooking when there are fresh ingredients and a clean kitchen available. That's not to say it needs to be big or fancy, but after a couple experiences of a very NOT clean kitchen at a ski resort housing, it's worth mentioning!

In our free time, we hope to see the local area and would welcome all recommendations of things to check out while we are there. We enjoy...well, pretty much all activities. We love all the nature including hiking, biking, rock climbing, camping, wandering aimlessly around neighborhoods, and have enjoyed our time working on farms. We love the water, be it lakes, rivers, or oceans. Scott is an avid fisherman and boat enthusiast and Tina will spend hours supporting his hobby with him when it is warm and sunny (otherwise, she may opt for a good book instead). We have surfed and snorkled in Hawaii and would enjoy the opportunity to learn more water sports when it's presented. We enjoy checking out local breweries and wineries and it's always a bonus when there is live music involved.

We have a rough outline of our next few years, but it seems that plan changes and adjusts every time we begin the conversation of what's next so we really go where we feel pulled in that moment and our list of "someday" continues to grow!

  • Quelles sont vos compétences ?

Our vocational experience found us both working in the banking industry for the majority of our careers. Scott held leadership/management roles for over 20 years and Tina had an 18 year career focused on process improvement. We still find these skills valuable in our volunteer and travel (WWOOF, resort, workaway, etc) work experience and also like to add in work that was not a part of our vocational focus.
We both enjoy learning and doing new things. We may not have expertise in areas, but we will work our butt's off for you, are open to feedback and direct guidance and are not offended if we are told, "um....maybe this project isn't right for you."
We both love and appreciate the outdoors in addition to a broad range of hobbies and interests. Scott loves to fish, camp, snow ski, and play basketball. He will amuse you with stories of his adventures and can make friends with pretty much anyone he crosses paths with. On his down time, he is an avid sports fan and a movie fanatic.
Tina will walk or ride her bike over driving pretty much anywhere. She enjoys hiking, backpacking, and generally being as off-grid as possible. She loves getting her hands dirty and has a tough time staying clean whether that is farm work, gardening, painting, changing a tire or belt on a car, or simply trying to figure out how something works. She enjoys cooking when she has access to healthy food and a clean kitchen and typically prefers to double the batch to have a good dose of leftovers.
Random things at least one of us, often both of us have done:
    - Trail cleaning, utilizing a variety of tools including shovels, pick ax, single and double bit ax, mcleod, pulaksy, hand saws, cross cut saw, etc.
    - Equipment operation, including driving tractor, ATV, UTV, skid steer (changing from bucket to forks), mowers, weed eaters, wood chipper, snow machines....that one time Tina drove a CAT dump truck, chainsaw, and probably a few others we aren't thinking about!
    - Outdoor fun- hiking, backpacking, rock climbing, canoeing, kayaking, skiff driving, motor boating, mountain biking, cyclocross, fishing (and processing), gardening and landscaping (this is one of those areas where we will work hard and share ideas but don't have actual knowledge or skill), skiing/snowboarding, skydiving, bungee jumping, white water rafting, bird watching, berry picking, beach combing.....we just enjoy being outside!
    - Scott loves organizing and decorating and has done several of our spaces, our friend's spaces, and has been hired to help clean and organize garage and living spaces.
    - Tina loves to dig holes. Seriously. No one believes it when we say it, but give that girl a shovel and a water bottle and she'll go for hours!
    - Basic carpentry, demolition, installing flooring, caulking, sanding, sealing, painting, sheet rock, roofing, deck building, etc (not certified, not necessarily skilled, but lots of experience for ourselves and helping friends)

  • Autres infos...

Just because we've heard some stories.....we are not seeking couple sharing experiences.

Tina would love to learn about bee keeping!
There is so much we want to do and want to see it's so difficult to choose. We have raised our kids and they are (mostly) adulting successfully so we are just out to play and work and learn and experience the world. We may not have expertise or certified skills in many areas, but if you want hard workers....we are your team!
