Description

My name is Rubi! I'm a carpenter and homesteader from Asheville, NC. I have a Bachelors in Sustainable Design and I've studied art, science, and permaculture in the US, India, Brazil, and many parts of Central America. I've built tiny homes, bus conversions, and worked on farms and in ecovillages all around the world. Over the past 5 years I built a beautiful home and homestead of my own in Asheville, however Hurricane Helene devastated the area in Sept. I'm now on an adventure to discover new opportunities elsewhere and find the blessings in the experience!

Quelles sont vos compétences ?

I'm all about living a natural, organic, and alternative lifestyle. I've been a builder for many years and I have studied and practiced most facets of permaculture, homesteading, and ecological living. I am a DIY enthusiast, I learn fast, and I'm a very proficient problem solver.

Construction and Design:
Architectural design, electrical, plumbing, gas, framing, and fine woodworking. I've designed and built tiny houses, bus conversions, sheds, chickens coops, porches, ect. I've worked in residential design and contracting and I finished building my own 1000sq ft round house in the mountains two years ago.

Permaculture/ Homesteading:
I earned my PDC from EcoCentro IPEC in Brazil in 2012. I've since worked on farms, homesteads, and landscaping crews and built my own homestead on my land in the Appalachian mountains. I am experienced in gardening, mushroom cultivation, food preservation, herbal medicine making, fermentation, wild food foraging, and healthy cooking from scratch.

Interior design and decorating:
I love to design, decorate, and organize spaces and I love using sustainable, natural, and/or recycled materials to do so. I build/upcycle furniture, paint, sew pillows and drapes, make decorations, and deep clean.

Art and Design:
I am a highly experienced seamstress and can make all types of garments and patterns from scratch. I've made everything from pillow shams to backpacks to my own wedding dress!

Dance:
I have been practicing belly dance for 10 years and I teach beginner classes on occasion. More recently I've been learning new forms of dance such as salsa, bachata, and Brazilian zouk!

Hospitality:
During my first work-away I ended up running and managing a 15-bed hostel by myself in Venice, Italy. I gained a lot of experience interacting with guests, making reservations, check in and check out, room cleaning, laundry, breakfast prep, and book keeping.
