  • Description

Like so many Workawayers (I've been a Workaway and Wwoofer host for 5 years) I am at a change point in my life. It's not that I need to find a new diretion, but I would like to have some "adventures", challenge myself, learn more skills (both new and getting better with exisiting skills) meet new people. I have so enjoyed meeting and interacting with the Workawayers, sharing my knowledge and skills, and learning from them. We might have had generational differences, but I have found I am very often on the same "wave length" as Workawayers.
I'm not a city person. I live in a beautiful part of Scotland, and love the peace of a rural setting. I love hill walking, kayaking, mountain biking (mostly on trails - I'm of an age when falling off is not a good idea!) I also enjoy off road running, especially with my three dogs. (The dogs are so delightful, that I have no problems finding house sitters who will come and look after them when I go away!) I no longer run so far, or so fast, but it still feels good. Here at home, I enjoy a woodfired sauna in the spa cabin I built with my ex husband and love to jump in the loch (the lake) straight after! I use the wood fired hot tub less, as it takes such a long time to heat up, and uses a lot of fire wood. But it is something I enjoy with friends.
I think I am a peasant at heart! I love chainsawing, splitting and stacking wood - preparing for winter. And I enjoy making jam, chutney, pickles etc from the fruit picked in the garden. Again, the feeling of laying in stores! I bake all my own bread.
I enjoy gardening, particulalry growing food, and would like to learn more about methods that improve the soil. I don't mind hard work - indeed I relish it. I'm resourceful, can work alone, but also enjoy working as part of a team. I can be a "chief" if required, but am also happy to be "an indian" and follow orders.
I have done quite a bit of cabin and shed building (with my ex-husband). I particulalry like to re-use and repurpose all kinds of things, and am loath to simply throw things away. I volunteer at our local "Repair Cafe" which satisfies this ethos of rejecting the "throw away" society.

My mother tongue is English and my early career was as an English Foreign Language teacher. My French and German, although fluent, can always be improved or "re-activated".

  • Quelles sont vos compétences ?

I was an English foreigh Language teacher in Germany, Belgium, Brunei and UK. I then because a University Lecturer and set up a language school as an income earning activity for the University. To help me do that, I added an MBA to my exisiting MA . I later became a project manager and Head of Service Development in a national charity. I speak fluent French and Germany and enjoy helping others improve their English skills and knowledge.
Outside of work, I love gardening, practical DIY (though I want to learn more) sewing, and looking after the small "woodland" around my home.
I enjoy meeting people, learning about other cultures, society and politics. My first degree was in Geography, and my role as an entrpreneur at the University took me all around the world connecting with prospective language students, agents and teachers. I especially enjoyed the teacher-training workshops I led as part of the marketing.
