Description
Greetings. My name is YANG, or FATE, and I consider myself both an artistic soul and a physically active individual.
I find great satisfaction in creative expression, particularly through photography and yoga, two of my deepest passions. I rarely go anywhere without a camera in hand. I take genuine pleasure in physical workout and am always ready to offer my assistance in practical tasks. I lived in the UK, primarily London and then Oxford, for over a decade before I moved to Japan. During my time living in Japan, I undertook several small DIY projects, including crafting a writing desk, a small tea table, and a shelf. I am also somehow compulsive so rather fond of cleaning, and I find it calming to help maintain a space of order. Although I do not yet possess any remarkable culinary skills, I am eager to learn and happy to lend a hand in the kitchen.
I am comfortable around animals, particularly dogs and horses, who seem instinctively drawn to me — though I must confess, cats appear somewhat less enthusiastic. I value respect and sincerity in my interactions, and I greatly enjoy meeting new people and discovering different ways of life. I am also a keen student of languages; I speak Mandarin Chinese and English fluently, and I speak Japanese and Arabic to varying degrees. Above all, I look forward to contributing meaningfully wherever I may go, to exchanging stories and perspectives, and, with a bit of luck, to capturing a few beautiful moments along the way.

Born and raised in Beijing, a city steeped in history and traditions, I developed a deep appreciation for language from an early age. My childhood was shaped by the studies of classical Mandarin Chinese and the art of Chinese calligraphy, as well as the sound of BBC News echoing through our home each morning. This bilingual exposure fostered a lifelong curiosity in languages and the cultures they carry. At seventeen, I moved to London to pursue my studies, where I cultivated a growing interest in religion, eventually choosing to major in Arabic and Islamic Studies at university. During my third year, I spent the year in Amman, Jordan, where I completed an original 4,000-word research paper in Arabic — an experience that sparked a new fascination with Japan. I explored this interest through the lens of Arabic, culminating in a thesis that bridged the two cultures. After graduation, I pursued a master’s degree in Japanese Studies at the University of Oxford and continued on to doctoral research in the same field. Now living in Japan, I feel as though my relationship with language has been a lifelong dialogue — not just with words, but with the stories, histories, and spiritual worlds of those who speak them.
