Hello !

We are Romane and Pierre, we are 20 and we are from France!

We are two friends studying in the same engineering school in Rennes (Britanny, France).

Pierre loves to spend time in the countryside and nature, hiking through forests and mountains, and exploring remote places. Going on a hike with friends and ending the day talking for hours around a campfire is his idea of happiness. Fishing is also one of his favourite outside activities.

He works as a camp counselor on his vacations, and he also worked a few months on construction sites. He likes teamwork and enjoys fostering a sense of cohesion in the groups he’s part of. He also has a practical mindset and likes to find creative solutions to problems. Pierre is curious about pretty much everything!

Romane is always enthusiastic about discovering new places and experiencing different ways of life. She enjoys hiking and being outdoors, and she’s always happy to take on new challenges. She also likes cooking and can help with gardening or small DIY projects.

She has worked in a nursing home and as a technical agent for her hometown, gaining experience in teamwork. She’s adaptable, learns quickly, and enjoys immersing herself in new environments and is always willing to lend a hand where it’s needed.

As a member of a few student associations, we have learned to work collaboratively, take initiative, and adapt to different challenges. We know each other for about two years, and travelling together is going to be an extraordinary experience for both of us!

Quelles sont vos compétences ?
Romane likes all kinds of practical works, whether it’s crafting something, doing maintenance tasks or DIY project. She loves working with her hands and is always enthusiastic about learning new skills.

Pierre likes to work outdoors, whether it’s gardening, trimming trees, chopping wood, or repairing fences. He’s comfortable with basic maintenance work, such as fixing things around the house and repairing items.

We can also work with children and teach them French, a little bit of English, and even some math ! We love working with a smile and music, and we are happy to help with almost anything you might need—just let us know !

We spent two weeks on Raunoy Island in July 2025, and it was absolutely fantastic.

First of all, we were warmly welcomed by Martin and Jorunn, and Merete who joined us a bit later. They were kind, generous, and made us feel very comfortable. We were happy to experience their traditional Norwegian way of life, and to learn about the history of the… read more island. Martin is patient and friendly, Jorunn is adorable and makes great food, and Merete is just as kind as her parents. We adapted quickly to the special life on the island : most importantly you have to take the boat every time you need to do groceries or fetch drinkable water. Then there is daylight 24/7 during summer (in July at least), which feels a bit strange for sleeping at first. Finally, you spend a lot of time outside - otherwise you get bored really quickly inside. Also, we went to the mainland a few times and had the chance to spend a few days at the family’s house near Bergen.

The work we did was very varied. We cut the grass, let it dry and stored it for the winter, we prepared the house for Airbnb guests, we cleaned and tidied a bit the boathouse, we tried to make the road as dry as possible from the pier to the house (which was not an easy task, given the rainy weather we can have out there :), we repaired some parts of the pier, we entirely cleaned Martin’s boat, and took care of other small tasks. Nothing impossible even though some tasks were sometimes a bit hard, but we were three (with Julien, another workawayer). We had all the time and all the tools we needed, and Martin and Jorunn were patient and gave us clear instructions. For us, it was nice to help and be involved in every aspects of life on the island, including the work.

When we were not working (we didn’t work all day long, of course), we enjoyed being on the island : going for a little walk or exploring for hours, going fishing with the little boat and hopefully bringing some fish on the table, trying to observe the otters near the pier, enjoying stunning sunsets and beautiful fjord landscapes… The island really is a dream place to live in. We were very lucky with the weather since we had some quite hot days (up to 30°C, which is rare) and a lot of sunshine too. It made our stay even better, and we also had the chance to go swimming and paddling a few times. We lived among plenty of wild animals : all kinds of sea birds, frogs, rabbits and even otters. And of course, a lot of domestic animals live around the house : a cat, a dog, some chickens, goats and a lot of sheeps.

So, thank you very much Merete, Jorunn and Martin for hosting us this summer. It was a wonderful experience we will always remember.
