Description

We are a female couple who have travelled to New Zealand and several times in Central and South America. We love the atmosphere and the people in Latin America.
Paula used to be a teacher in physics and chemistry, and Ellen is a recently retired speech therapist (language/voice/hearing).
In 2017 we volunteered in Pereira, Colombia. There we worked on a finca, clearing the estate of old leaves and flowers, painting trees against insects and cleaning the covered terrace of the guesthouse. We love to travel, but we also like to do something in the countries we visit. In 2018 we stayed for two weeks in San Agustin, Colombia, where we built a bamboo shower cabin in a hostel. In 2019 we went back to San Agustin to help the tenants of the hostel with their newly built house, and after that we worked in a hostel in Ecuador, gardening, painting, cleaning.
At the moment we don't want to fly long distance, but we still love to travel.
Since 2023 we did (and do) Workaway in Andalucía, where we stayed with an English lady for several weeks. Paula did lots of gardening and wood sawing, Ellen helped in the kitchen, and together we built a chicken run at the casita, using old and new materials. We also built a few raised garden beds using pallet wood. We went back in '24 and '25 because we love the host, the house, the swimming pool and the work : gardening, burning weeds, pruning, painting, making marmelade, decorating. In 2026 we will be there for the 4th time ..! In '24 we also worked in the Alpujarras (read the review) and in '25 we also worked in Portugal ( cleaning the chicken run and feeding the chickens, painting the swimming pool and sanitation, painting furniture, gardening) and in France, staying with friends and helping them in de garden and painting in the house)
We might seem a bit 'old'..., but we are very healthy and of course we have a lot of experience in life :)
We do not smoke.

Paula is now a great housepainter and can do construction work, she also loves gardening.
Ellen is also handy with computers and internet, and can also help with construction and painting. She has good practical en technical insight.
