Hello! :)
My name is Nicola and I come from a village in northern Italy, not far from the border with Slovenia.
I grew up in a farm and I still live here, even if there are not as many animals now as when my dad was around. (We still have lots of chickens for the eggs tho).
For the last years I've been working as a librarian in a small local library, and this is definitley the work I love. What I like the most about it is that it doesn't involve selling anything to anyone, no struggle to perform better but just doing my best to offer a good service to the people coming to search for a book. I honestly feel quite grateful for having this luck.
This is the work I will probably do in the future, but now, after some somehow tough years, I felt like I needed to give a spin to the weel a little bit, be away from home again and see some more of the world.
I used Workaway to travel in the past, but now it's been a while since I last was able to leave home for a longer period. Time has come, and starting from February 2025 I'm temporarily resigning from work and I'm planning to go on a new trip to the East. Let's see how far I get!

As I said, this will not be my first volunteering experience. The first time was in 2014 when I was hosted by two different great hosts in Ireland, and since then I had these kind of exchanges in Scotland, France, Finland, Poland and even Italy, doing a very wide range of different things. I was always lucky and I always had very good experiences, always felt welcomed and at ease and enjoyed the work that needed to be done. I was using a different platform tho (HelpX), that's why I don't have any review here. Hope this will change soon :)

Now my plan, roughly, is to travel towards central Asia starting from my home in Friuli (north-east corner of Italy), making stops of two or three (or maybe more!) weeks on the way, in order to not make it just a dry trip to see a million things, but a journey where I hope to get to know some great people, understand the places that I'll cross, and hopefully make myself helpful for someone!

I don't think it's needed to say that I hope to be an enough open-minded, curious and tolerant person. I'm interested in history and geography, traditions, literature, and always love to learn about new stories and cultures.
I really eat everything, and usually love it (I must warn you that I have a big appetite especially after working ahaha). I'm eating less meat without being strict about it, so I will enjoy any kind of diet from vegetarian to traditional.
I don't smoke but I'm not bothered about it, and I enjoy a drink in good company. But also, growing up in a farm in the countryside I'm used to quiet and remote places, and I rarely suffer from boredom or lack of socializing. When there's a book to read or a trail to walk I will be happy.

As I mentioned, I had some workaway experiences in the past years, ranging widely from more regular farms to seasalt harvesting.
The kind of jobs I enjoy the most are usually the physical and outside ones, be it for farming, gardening or restoring. I grew up in a farm, and I'm familiar with animals and most things involved. And when I'm not already skilled at something, I like to understaind it and I'm usually quick at grasping it. At least it has always been so! :) I can say I can fit in most working environments and I like to do a good job.
About indoor things, I don't mind cleaning and I enjoy cooking. And I'm a librarian so I love organizing things! ahaha
Really, I think I can make myself useful at most jobs!

Quelles sont vos compétences ?

I'm a practical guy when it comes to it, I like to solve problems, fix things, find solutions to situations, and I'm quite good in that. I managed my family's farm for one year (before understanding that was not my path), and before that I was always giving an hand at the farm anyways, and also volunteered in farms and different places around Europe now and then.
I'm also quite good in cooking, I really enjoy that, especially when using good fresh ingredients: I'm the one preparing meals for everyone at my shared apartment, and they seem to appreciate ahaha
