Hello!

My name is Nicolas Karmitz, I am a French 24 year old traveler who recently finished studying, curious to experience a few more adventures before settling into a stable life with a fixed home and career. Eventually, I would like to work in the domain of territorial development and infrastructure systems. Before that, I believe Workaway would be the best way to discover different cities, landscapes, climates, and ways of living, each of which would be important to the holistic urban planning that I aspire to. I am looking for a variety of projects that would allow me to learn about all the aspects of urban or rural systems and their possible combination, for building communities of the future.

That said, I am also a big fan of latin dances (especially Bachata) and city life in general, so I would love to explore the local scene. Another important aspect for me, would be the possibility of learning and practicing Spanish.

Other than that, I am a clean and communicative housemate, eager to discuss a wide range of topics and contribute to a all kinds of tasks.

I speak English and French fluently, and have read extensively in both languages. I can help practice these, and I would also be open to teaching. My German proficiency is not as developed, but I would happily practice together. As for Russian, I can hold basic conversations, but remain still limited when confronted with more complicated topics. I currently have started learning Spanish, and wish to push myself to learn as much as possible in the time I spend on Workaway opportunities in the next month or two.

Quelles sont vos compétences ?

I grew up on a dairy farm in Normandy, which gave me a solid, practical foundation in caring for animals, maintaining a garden, and using a variety of tools. I also have significant experience riding and working with cows on horseback.

After highschool, I moved to Switzerland for my studies, where I obtained a Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering and a Master's in Urban Planning.

During my studies, my sister had a son who I often help take care of on weekends. He is now 3 year old, and we go out together on little expeditions on local trains and buses all over the region. I have experience working with both kids and adults at my previous University's science fairs, explaining concepts relative to the environment and climate. And I also taught snowboarding to all ages and group sizes in Austria.

I am a native French and English speaker, fluent in German, and have a basic knowledge of Russian.

Although I own a driver's license, my last few longer travels have involved long distance hitchhiking. I just completed a month long trip from Yerevan to Bucharest, with my tent and essential belongings on my back. So I consider myself to be quite adaptable!

Other than that, I take pride in cleaning and other housework, and I genuinely enjoy doing a wide variety of tasks. Learning new skills has always been a great pleasure.
