    Hello Beautiful Humans!

    I'm Mel, a Canadian eco-conscious nomad that thrives living against the grain. I began to build a successful career in Humane Education back in Canada, working within Alberta Provincial Parks as an Environmental Educator and for Calgary Humane Society heading up Education and Community Outreach. I love instilling values of compassion, empathy and respect toward humans, animals and the environmental alike and am building a wonderfully entangled life and career path filled with environmental responsibility and animal welfare. While I have spent weeks and months at a time traveling in between school and jobs over the past 10 years, In 2019 it was time to give into my itchy feet and be on the road traveling with an open-ended plan, this urge landed me in Scotland with a 2-year working visa! Following 2 years of living and working in Edinburgh, I spent 6 months exploring Greece and Turkey and am now back home in Canada, just until I set back off on my next adventure.

    What makes me? Well, like us all, a lot of different things. I grew up in the shadow of the Rocky Mountains from my hometown of Cochrane, Alberta. I love to be roaming outside, forest bathing, getting my hiking boots muddy and my mind and soul filled with nature. I've been eating, living and breathing a plant based lifestyle for over 15 years and genuinely want to work toward the most sustainable life I can in everything that I do. I'm on a journey to bring more conscious thought and action to my day to day while ever learning and improving. Travel is my teacher, the best teacher I think! While I spent some time studying Environmental Science and Psychology in University I have gained so much more in-depth knowledge from getting out and drinking the world in in every way I can.

    I believe that facing our fears brings some of the best growth. Like a good Yin Yoga practice, the pose begins when we want to move out of it, the benefit comes from breathing into it - I feel that life really begins when we come to the edges of our comfort zones and with that I am always looking to try something new, take on an exciting challenge get neck deep in adventure and really push my boundaries.

    All of the stones that have fallen in place to make up my path are now trembling with that is coming next. Maybe I will meet you soon?

    Big love from me to you.

  • Quelles sont vos compétences ?

    “A jack of all trades is a master of none, but oftentimes better than a master of one.”

    I like to keep things fresh and as such have gained extensive experience in many different industries. I am a hard worker who loves a challenge, I enjoy problem solving to complete a task in an efficient and creative way and see everything as an opportunity to learn. I learn best by experiencing what I am trying to take on, so like to tackle tasks in a "dive in with both feet" way.

    I am currently working as a program coordinator for a youth climate action project and have been building a unique career in Humane Education and Sustainability. I have extensive experience working and teaching within the Animal Welfare and Environmental Education sectors. I have held professional positions as;
    Community Outreach Facilitator
    Humane Education Specialist
    Environmental Educator
    Nature Park Interpreter
    Provincial Park Tour Guide
    Environmental Advocacy Campaigner
    Administration Professional

    In addition to these roles, I have held roles in various other industries as well gaining experience as an;
    Photographer
    Receptionist
    Customer Service Rep
    Children's Camp Counsellor
    Landscaper (lawn and garden)
    Server
    Bartender
    Hostess

    Animals are a big part of my life and I have been surrounded by them for as long as I can remember. I grew up on a small acreage in Alberta where my Mom and I had 2 sheep, 3 rabbits, 2 guinea pigs, a hamster, a cat and a dog, all whom were rescued from varying situations in life. This love of all beings led me into the Animal Welfare world where I worked at the Calgary Humane Society for 3.5 years. Within my professional life with animals, I have gained extensive experience in their care and wellbeing, and have training in canine and feline body language, canine first aid and understanding how animals learn. I am comfortable caring for an handling many species including reptiles.

    I am keen to work in and among the community and love to educate on areas I am passionate about. I have been working with all ages (children to children at heart) as an educator, tour guide, camp counsellor and interpreter so have no problem immersing into the community and getting to know people. I love to learn and share knowledge!

    I work well on teams as well as independently and am a self admitted perfectionist when it comes to task completion, I don't like to half-ass anything, I like to stand behind my work and feel proud of it's completion. I value work that improves the lives of others so generally gauge a job well done by seeing what joy or benefit it has brought to another life.

    A picture is worth a thousand words, right? I'm a bit of a tree-hugger as my photo suggests, I like to take on the world with an open mind and open heart. I crave new sights, smells, sounds and overall adventures and of course the new friends I meet along the way. I have a heavily empathetic soul, so do value my alone time to recharge, but am always up to swap stories over a glass of wine or a s'more making sesh around the campfire.

    Traveling the world and getting to know the people and communities in which I visit has been my biggest and best teacher in life. I am always keen for a new adventure, anywhere! Flags I have collected thus far;
    🇨🇦🇺🇸🇲🇽🇩🇴🇨🇷🇭🇲🇳🇿🇵🇪🇪🇨🇬🇹🇨🇳🇸🇬🇲🇨🇬🇧🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🇨🇮🇫🇷🇪🇸🇬🇷🇹🇷

    I live a plant based lifestyle, enjoy a veg diet and aim to reduce harmful impact on the lives of others as best I can. This is a journey that I am constantly learning about and growing on and as such I don't label myself a vegan. I'm just plant based, doing the best I can.

    I love all music but found my vibe at punk rock concerts as a teenager, play me some Rise Against and we'll be pals from the start. If you crack into my CD case, you'll find everything from Paul Simon to Regina Spector to Tupac to Rancid to Dean Martin to Sum 41 and beyond. I just love to grove out and dance around.

    I drink coffee like a Gilmore (if you get that reference, we will also be pals). No need for milk or sugar, just a good hot cup o' joe in the morning... or all day long, let's be honest. If the question is coffee, the answer is yes. Red, red wine and dark dark chocolate go hand in hand with my love of black coffee. My tastebuds have an affinity for deep soulful flavours.

    Gemini Sun, Scorpio Moon, Gemini Rising. I'm a Moon gazer, luna is magic.
