Hi! My name is Mathis, and I’m currently traveling around New Zealand on a Working Holiday Visa. I recently graduated as an engineer, and before stepping into a full-time career back home, I decided to spend a year exploring, learning, and gaining unique experiences through this adventure.

This year, my goal is to try new things, expand my skills, and truly immerse myself in New Zealand’s incredible landscapes and culture. I’m excited to meet locals, learn about different ways of life, and contribute wherever I can.

I’m a big fan of the outdoors and enjoy all kinds of physical activities, from hiking to volleyball and fitness training. Physical work doesn’t scare me—in fact, I welcome it as a chance to stay active and engaged. I also love music, movies, books, and discussing culture in all its forms. Cooking and sharing meals is another passion of mine, as I believe food is a wonderful way to connect with people and learn about their traditions.

Curiosity drives me, so I’m always eager to learn something new, whether it’s a practical skill or a deeper understanding of a subject. I see Workaway as a fantastic opportunity to gain hands-on experience, learn from others, and contribute meaningfully during my travels.

Things I enjoy: movies, TV shows, books, hiking to scenic viewpoints, volleyball, fitness, running, social gatherings, nature, technology, and outdoor adventures.

Skills and Experience

As a recent graduate in electromechanical engineering, I bring a solid foundation in problem-solving, technical knowledge, and project work. My studies focused on energy and sustainability, which have given me an appreciation for ecological practices and efficient solutions. This background means I’m adaptable and able to approach tasks logically, whether that involves technical challenges or hands-on work.

I’ve held a variety of jobs that have taught me to be reliable, hardworking, and flexible. I’ve worked in roles ranging from a supermarket employee and postman to a temporary worker at a law firm. Each of these roles helped me build valuable skills like time management, attention to detail, and customer service. My experience as a tutor for university students also strengthened my communication and organizational abilities, as well as my patience and empathy when working with others.

Outdoor and Practical Skills
I’m comfortable with outdoor work and enjoy staying active. Having spent time as a ranger guide, I’m familiar with outdoor environments, and I bring a resourceful and can-do attitude to any situation. I’m also physically fit, thanks to my love for sports like volleyball, fitness training, and running, and I’m not afraid of hands-on, physically demanding tasks. I genuinely enjoy physical work and look forward to opportunities to help out with manual labor, maintenance, or farm tasks.

Additional Skills
I'm curious and eager to learn, whether it’s a new skill or deepening my understanding of something. I have experience in basic cooking and love preparing meals, which makes me comfortable helping out in the kitchen. I’m also knowledgeable about technology and enjoy using my technical skills, whether in programming (Python, C, Java) or helping others with tech-related issues.

Overall, I’m excited to contribute my skills, stay open to learning, and make a positive impact during my travels.
