Description
Hi my name is Martin. I'm a deeply passionate person ✨—I love thinking creatively and bringing ideas to life. While I have a few main passions, I often find myself drawn into new ones, sometimes for a short but intense burst, other times for longer. I thrive on the excitement of exploring new creative paths, and never stick to just one.
I want to get out of my social comfort zone by meeting people from other paths of life, in the hope of learning from one another.
I came here to Taiwan to get out of my comfort zone by putting myself on the spot. I don't know anybody here (yet), I don't speak the language (yet) and don't have a job (yet). Pretty much everything is YET to be done! A daunting experience at times but one that surely will force me to find that force in me that's capable of much more than I could even imagine!!

Throught a lot of immersion I have learned to talk 4 languages. Learning those languages wasn't so much of a choice as it was a necessity. For exemple I used to play a lot of video games online and just naturally learned English as it was language that everyone communicated in. I feel incredibly lucky to speak multiple languages, as it gives me more freedom and allows me to connect with more people. Languages also open the door to a deeper understanding of the countless elements that make up a culture. They let you laugh at a typical Dutch guy’s joke in a bar, get goosebumps listening to Jacques Brel, enjoy watching Italians passionately argue, or be captivated by the melody of a British accent. Three months before arriving in Taiwan, I started learning Chinese. Since I got here, I’ve been more motivated than ever to learn the language. Breaking that language barrier would not only be practical—it would also break a cultural barrier. I often feel like I’m missing out on so much by not fully understanding the language. So for all the reasons mentioned above I would love to teach languages and would love to learn new ones too :)

Quelles sont vos compétences ?
I studied art videography at an art school that had a multidisciplinary approach to art, meaning we were free to explore and experiment with different mediums beyond our main focus. Although I'm still not sure what I want to do in life, I feel like those years had a positive impact on my approach to experimentation in both art and life.
I'm not fixated on one practice and give myself the freedom to express ideas in whatever medium suits them best. Over the years, I’ve done some photography, short films, theater, a bit of drawing, and quite a bit of sewing too. The idea of art and creating is something that has kept me interested over time, and it’s something I want to continue doing.
Besides art, I enjoy trying out new things, and a few years ago I got into chess. It led to a lot of headaches 😅 but also landed me a job teaching chess! My class had around 20 kids aged between 6 and 12 years old. Teaching was really tough at times, but in the end, I found it very rewarding—and it’s definitely something I’d love to do again in the future.
In addition to all this, I’m lucky to be able to speak English (fluently), French (native), Dutch (fluently), and a bit of Italian (elementary).
