Description

Hi there! My name is Ľubo, and I'm an easy-going and curious soul who’s always looking for meaning, connection, and a better way to live. I started out as a trained chef and worked in both Slovakia and Germany, in a Greek restaurant. At the time, I felt that the kitchen wasn’t really my calling, so I gave university a try and studied philosophy for a while. Although I didn’t graduate, it changed how I see the world and helped me grow a lot as a person.

For the past 9 years, I worked as a prison guard in the state service, where I also began studying psychology externally. It was a valuable experience, though at some point I realized life is too short to be spent behind bars—even as a guard! So I made a big decision: I quit and spent a year learning programming on my own. I was lucky to land a job with a major Slovak news site (Aktuality.sk), where I’ve been working ever since as a web developer.

Still, something was missing. I dream of building a simple home in nature, living sustainably, and practicing permaculture. I’d love to return to cooking, especially in a school, where I can serve kids real, tasty food—something better than what I remember from my own school days.

Unfortunately, due to recent political changes in Slovakia and growing disinformation influenced by Russia, I no longer feel safe or at home here. When I saw our Prime Minister shake hands with Putin in the Kremlin, I knew it was time for a change.

Now, I’m learning Finnish and planning to move to Finland to start fresh. I know the best way to learn the language and culture is to immerse myself in it, so I’m looking for Workaway opportunities where I can connect with locals, contribute, and grow—both personally and professionally.

I believe in honesty, open-mindedness, and trying to leave a place better than I found it. Whether that means planting vegetables, helping in the kitchen, or having deep conversations about life, I’m ready and excited to get involved.

Quelles sont vos compétences ?

I'm a hands-on person with a wide range of practical skills and real-life experience. I have a valid driver’s license and plenty of experience driving—both short distances and long road trips—so I’m comfortable helping with transport or errands.

Professionally, I’m a trained chef and also a certified shoemaker. I've worked in restaurants and even spent time working in a key-making and locksmith shop. While working in a prison for several years, I managed warehouse logistics and inventory systems.

In recent years, I shifted into web development. I taught myself to code and now work as a web developer for a major Slovak media platform. I’m especially confident with building websites and working with modern web technologies.

I’ve also worked on construction sites, and I’m not afraid of hard work—especially if it’s outdoors. I enjoy working with my hands, being in nature, and I’m eager to learn more about sustainable living, farming, and permaculture.

Whether it’s fixing things, cooking, organizing a workshop, building something, or planting in the garden—I’m ready to help.

In my free time, I really enjoy music—it's always been a big part of my life. I used to play in a metal band back in the day, and I still love discovering new sounds and going to concerts when I can.

I’m also a huge fan of fantasy and sci-fi, whether it’s books, movies, or games.

I’m open to learning new things, I enjoy deep conversations, and I’m always up for a good board game night!
