  • Description

Hello, my name is Jeremiah. I love to spend time outdoors, camping, trekking, and fly fishing. My wife and I have two dogs and two cat who we love very much. I love to garden and am a student of Agroforestry, working towards completing an apprenticeship with Cornell University Extension. I have had the great pleasure of working on multiple farms when not working for the National Park Service as a ranger. While farming I have worked with live stock in rotational grazing systems and vegetable production. While working for the Park Service I served as a back country ranger and wild land fire fighter. I love to meet new people and learn from them, experiencing this beautiful world in all its facets is my joy.

  • Quelles sont vos compétences ?

My agricultural education, training, and employment reflect a multidisciplinary and experiential foundation grounded in sustainable agriculture, agroforestry, and land stewardship. My background integrates hands-on farming experience, formal academic training, and applied research, allowing me to approach agriculture as both an ecological system and a community-centered practice.
I have completed a Master of Conservation Leadership at Colorado State University, where I developed advanced skills in land use planning, stakeholder engagement, and conservation strategy. This program strengthened my ability to think critically about the intersection of working lands, ecological health, and community needs. I also hold a Certificate in Agroforestry from the University of Missouri, which provided focused training in the design and implementation of tree-based agricultural systems. My undergraduate degree from Pennsylvania State University, where I earned a Bachelor of Science in Recreation, Park, and Tourism Management with a concentration in Environmental Interpretation, further developed my ability to communicate complex environmental concepts to diverse audiences. Together, my academic background supports a systems-level understanding of agriculture within broader environmental and social contexts.
My agricultural training is rooted in hands-on, field-based programs that emphasize both production and ecological stewardship. I completed the Veterans to Farmers Market Farming Program at the Denver Botanic Gardens Chatfield Farms, where I gained practical experience in small-scale organic vegetable production for a community-supported agriculture (CSA) model. My responsibilities included planting, harvesting, weeding, and processing produce, alongside training in beekeeping, compost management, cover cropping, integrated pest management (IPM), and soil health. This program also introduced business management concepts critical to operating a successful small farm.
Earlier in my career, I trained as a Veteran Farmer at the Rodale Institute, focusing on certified organic production and regenerative agriculture practices. I participated in growing vegetables for CSA distribution, assisted with livestock care, and operated farm equipment. A key component of this experience was researching and implementing no-till and reduced-till systems, which deepened my understanding of soil biology, carbon dynamics, and long-term farm sustainability.
My professional agricultural experience includes working at Whiffletree Farm, a multi-species regenerative grazing operation in Virginia. In this role, I was responsible for the daily care of cattle, broiler chickens, laying hens, pigs, and turkeys. I implemented rotational grazing systems using electric netting and polywire fencing to optimize forage use and maintain animal health. Additional responsibilities included poultry processing, infrastructure maintenance, farm store support, customer interaction, and record keeping. This experience provided a comprehensive understanding of diversified livestock systems and direct-to-consumer agricultural business models.
I am currently participating in an Agroforestry Apprenticeship Program with Cornell Cooperative Extension of Tompkins County. This program is designed to build technical expertise in tree planting, nursery production, and agroforestry system design. Through a combination of classroom instruction and applied fieldwork, I am developing skills in tree propagation, site assessment, and long-term management of perennial systems. I am also collaborating with extension staff, nursery managers, and other stakeholders, which strengthens my ability to contribute to applied agroforestry projects. This work aligns closely with my long-term goal of supporting or establishing agroforestry-based nursery systems and tree planting initiatives.
In addition to my direct agricultural experience, I previously served as a Presidential Management Fellow with the U.S. Forest Service, where I worked as a social scientist and completed a detail with the National Center for Agroforestry. In this role, I contributed to integrating agroforestry practices into public land management by supporting technical documentation updates, incorporating Indigenous knowledge, and conducting socio-economic analyses. I worked on interdisciplinary teams to inform land management planning and ensure that agricultural and agroforestry practices were considered within broader environmental and policy frameworks. While I am no longer in this role, the experience significantly strengthened my ability to connect agricultural systems with research, policy, and community engagement.
My broader professional background, including work as a wildland firefighter and National Park Service ranger, has further informed my understanding of ecosystem management, invasive species control, and public education. These roles required adaptability, technical skill, and strong communication, all of which are directly applicable to agricultural work and land stewardship.
Overall, my agricultural background represents a combination of formal education, applied training, and diverse professional experience. I bring a strong commitment to regenerative and agroforestry-based practices, a systems-oriented approach to land management, and the technical and interpersonal skills necessary to support resilient and sustainable agricultural systems.
My degree is in environmental Interpretation and Outdoor Education, I have taught both adults and children, in my role as ranger with the National Park Service I spent much of my time talking with visitors and providing education and information about the parks and the flora and fauna. During my time as a ranger I also received training in wildland fire fighting, chain saw use, atv and utv driving, and overland navigation.
