  • Description

    Hello!

I am currently an outdoor educator currently teaching a field school program at an outdoor school in B.C. Canada. I work with neurodiverse youth in an outdoor setting, teaching outdoor adventure (paddling, hiking, biking skiing...) and designing and teaching climate change education that integrates local school curriculum into community project based learning modules.

The past few summers I have been a part of creating an education project called World Bound which is a series of expeditions for youth in different regions of the world based on five pillars for climate change education: Integrating Climate Change Principles and Perspectives, Exploring Real-world Environments, Volunteering in Communities, Practicing Life Skills and Sustaining Climate Action. I have led 24 day 700km trips down the Yukon river focused on place based climate change education and learning from remote communities. This summer I will be taking World Bound to Ecuador and leading a 24 day trip in partnership with a series of local tourism operators and communities.

Following leading World Bound Ecuador, I plan on staying in South America and doing some personal exploration and learning. I have a vision of creating a full time school for youth that engages youth in meaningful climate action that is based in systemic change. I want to further develop this idea and gain experience and insight to a variety of education settings and styles during my time in South America.

Outside of my working passion, I enjoy active adventuring. I love climbing, mountaineering, flat water and whitewater canoeing, backcountry skiing, biking and running. I love getting creative with my cooking, learning about sustainable food systems and am interested in learning more about social justice and systems change. I grew up in a small mountain town which shaped my idea of community, care and opportunity. I value open and interesting conversation, community cooked meals, cards and board games and will be looking for friends to adventure with in the mountains. In university I studied biology and environmental studies. I am extremely interested in ecology, conservation and forestry and have experience working in a biology research context.
