Description

Hello! My name is Haley, I'm 38 years old, American, and I have been traveling full time for two years and plan to keep going.

I've had a wide range of studies, work experiences, hobbies and interests. I studied Foreign Languages and Literature in undergrad (studying in Senegal and Chile), worked as an au pair in Germany, a teacher in France, a commercial fishing deckhand for my dad, a baker for a farm to table restaurant. I got my Masters in Social Work, specializing in Global Social Work and did my capstone in South Africa. After graduate school and the passing of my father I worked at various nonprofits and living between Seattle, USA and my hometown on an island close to Canada.

For the past two years I’ve done a combination of Workaways, independent travel, visiting friends around the world, and working for a study abroad NGO. Most of my time has been in India, France, and Italy, but there are quite a few other countries on the list as well :)

My favorite parts of workaway experiences are the language/cultural exchange, discovering a region more intimately, and building relationships.

Things I love to do personally: play guitar/ukulele and sing, read, cook, hike, swim, dance, embroidery, watch movies, listen to music, write, draw, row/be on boats. I equally love the city and the countryside and all of the activities of both.

I love teaching English and discussing language/linguistics. I'm able to teach basic Spanish and French as well (French is my strongest language). I'm always looking to practice/improve my French and Spanish. I'm starting to learn Italian and loving it.

Quelles sont vos compétences ?

I have had so many different jobs/experiences that I feel confident I can learn/do just about anything.
-I have worked in multicultural settings, taught English and studied multiple languages myself. I love teaching and helping others learn!
-I love working in kitchens/with food (I was the head baker of a farm to table restaurant when I was younger)
-I worked as an au pair when I was younger, taught English in France, and have volunteered with children off and on over the past decade.
-I have tons of experience with hospitality/customer service if you run a bed and breakfast or a hostel.
-I have gardening experience (though I'm not an expert). Last summer I grew over 20 pounds of raspberries in my backyard. I made lots of jam!
-I love animals.
-As a professional working remotely, I am comfortable with technology and administration. I currently work as a fundraiser for a national nonprofit and am comfortable with building relationships with a wide variety of people, organizing strategies, etc.

I listen to music from all over the world and am constantly discovering, sharing, creating playlists, etc.

I also practice Vipassana meditation (though I do not have a daily practice). I would love to sit or serve at a center in Europe!

  Due to an autoimmune disease, I don't eat gluten, eggs, soy, and most dairy. I mostly eat meat and vegetables, hard cheese, fruit, some grains (like rice, corn, quinoa) and nuts /seeds. This also means no to beer, but yes to wine and cocktails :)
