Traveling the South Island right now!!

Description

Hi!! Our names are Thomas & Emma , we are 21 and 20 years old and traveling through New Zealand at the moment. We just finished high school and we share a dream together... Going on adventures!! So that's why we decided to take a gap year to travel to New Zealand, the pacific islands, Indonesia and who knows where else!

We are very social and can't wait to meet new people. That's among other things, one of the reasons that we like to stay and work with hosts! We hope that Workaway will take us to places we would never have seen and meet people we wouldn't have met otherwise :)

We have been working on several farms, doing reforestation work or helping in the gardens. Through beautiful Workaway experiences we got to volunteer at a Maori School, meet beautiful people and much more! We also have been working on a campsite for the past 2 months doing general maintenance tasks, security and cleaning.

Quelles sont vos compétences ?

THOMAS:

I'm always excited to learn new things, and I've picked up various skills along the way.

My journey started when I was young, spending summers sailing on the lovely Dutch lakes. After a while, I became a certified sailing instructor. Teaching kids and making learning fun was something I got good at during my time as a summer camp sailing instructor.

I'm a team player, and I enjoy hands-on work. I don't mind a bit of physical labor, and I see problems as puzzles to solve. I like trying new things and finding better ways to do stuff.

In addition to learning, I'm big into sports. I used to play rugby until I turned 18, and you'd often find me at the gym.

In recent years, from 2018 to 2023, I've had a variety of jobs, like managing a restaurant's delivery service, continuing as a sailing instructor, learning construction as an apprentice at a roofing company, and working at a rug cleaning company.

These experiences have added layers to my skills, reinforced my work ethic, and kept me curious and eager to improve. I'm excited to put these skills to good use in the future.

EMMA:

I am very open-minded and would love to try something new everyday! I already enjoyed so much during our time in New Zealand: I gained new skills, learned some life lessons, met the most amazing people! And I cannot wait to meet you!

The last 5 years I have been working in hospitality, ranging from cozy pubs to exclusive boutique hotels. What I so immensely enjoy about hospitality is working together with people and learning more things about good food and good drinks!
Since a few years I also help in training and mentoring new team members. I really like to share my knowledge and skills to help others!

I teally value societal and political matters. During my school years I actively worked on increasing political awareness among us, young people, in this world and successfully organized activities to involve them in political discussions. Additionally, I participated in theater plays addressing societal issues.

Theater plays a big role in my life, allowing me to address societal problems and nurture my creative side. By participating in various theater plays, I have not only gained knowledge but I also just really enjoy it!! So if you like theatre too I would love to learn more!

My love for animals, especially horses, is something that is a big part of me. Since I have always had horses at home and always enjoyed both taking care of them and riding, I now have a good understanding and knowledge of horse care and am familiar with various methods of working with horses.
Of course, I am completely open to new ways of working with horses and other animals!
