  • Description

Hey there! I’m Emma, a brand new face on this platform, nice to meet you!
I didn’t create my profile just because it was one of my New Year's resolutions (let’s face it, those usually don’t last long, right?), but rather because it’s time for me to embrace a new lifestyle for the future, and Workaway seems like a perfect way to do that.

A little bit about me: I finished my geography studies a few months ago. I walked out of university all bright-eyed and ready to dive into the world of work, but quickly realized that a regular full-time job filling up most of my days wasn't really what I wanted at the moment. Still, I took the plunge (mostly because I need some money to survive), but on my own terms: in the summer, I work seasonal jobs, and the rest of the year, I’m a part-time researcher at a university in Turin, Italy, working from my computer (yep, I’ve joined the digital nomad crew, terrible, huh?). My two jobs don’t pay enough for rent year-round, so I only settle down in the summer, and the rest of the time, I roam around. This lifestyle gives me a ton of free time, which I like to spend sometimes sleeping until 12AM, but mostly helping out great people or organizations that can provide me with a place to stay. You get it – that’s the Workaway deal!

So now you know a bit about my motivations. What else can I tell you? I’m an easygoing, adaptable person: I love meeting new people and spending time with them, but I’m also totally fine doing my own thing (proof: I never leave home without my Sudoku book). One thing I really love is the mountains: I spend a good chunk of my year there (in the summer, I work seasonally, and the rest of the year, I crash at a friend’s place who lives there whenever I can), and my research focuses on how mountains are adapting to climate change (spoiler: things are not looking great).Besides that, I enjoy walking, lighting fires in chimneys, chatting, telling jokes, buying bread, basically all the little things that make most people happy.

When it comes to my skills, to be honest, I don’t have any super advanced technical skills. I can handle simple tasks that don’t require much training, use a few machines, and also learning things. I’m not afraid of physical work : my different summer jobs taught me how to do a bit of DIY (right now, I work in an old industrial mine, giving touristic tours and doing manual preservation work) and I’ve built some serious back strength (I spent several summers working in vineyards, which made me pretty resilient to repetitive tasks for hours on end).

That’s a quick overview of who I am! For anything else, feel free to message me here—I usually reply pretty fast (after all, I’m a digital nomad, and the legend says we’re never truly offline).

I’ve got one main goal: to keep improving my Italian. My job in Turin is in Italian, so I speak it fluently. Still, I’d like to be more fluent, and honestly, the best way to do that is to surround myself with the language 24/7! Also, I have no issues with English. And since I’m French, complaining is my mother tongue

  • Quelles sont vos compétences ?

can handle all the simple stuff that doesn’t need much learning, use a few machines, and mostly just do what I’m taught. I’m not scared of physical work: my different summer jobs taught me how to tinker (right now, I’m working in an old industrial mine, giving tours and doing some heritage preservation work) and how to tough it out (I’ve worked a few summers in vineyards, which made me pretty resilient at doing the same thing over and over for hours)
