Hi!
I’m Chiara and I come from Italy. I would like to spend a few months in Germany through a Workaway experience before starting my Master’s degree. I decided to take this time to step out of my comfort zone, experience a different lifestyle away from my university's routine, discover new realities and learn through practical, hands-on work.

Even though I don’t live in the countryside, I truly love nature and animals. I am aware that this kind of work can be demanding, but I am motivated to learn, get involved, and I’m not afraid to get my hands dirty. I have a dog whom I love very much, and I practiced horse riding for several years (7 years of English riding and 1 year of Western riding).

I am the second of four children, so I am used to sharing spaces, noise, and daily life with others. At the same time, I also appreciate quiet moments and I am comfortable spending time on my own.

I chose Germany because I have a personal connection to this country: my grandmother is German. Even though my German is still basic, I am very motivated to improve it and reconnect with this part of my background.

My main hobbies and interests are:
-Reading
-Horse riding
-Walking in nature and spending time outdoors
-Drawing and painting
-Listening to music
-Watching films
…and I’m open to discovering new ones!

Unsere vier Monate mit Chiara waren sehr bereichernd und schön! Chiara hat sich in unsere Familie problemlos eingefügt, wir haben zusammen viel gelacht und sehr schöne Zeiten verbracht.Die Arbeiten bei den Pferde verrichteten wir meist gemeinsam. I spent four unforgettable months with Petra and her family. It was my first Workaway experience, and I found everything I had hoped for, and more. I was welcomed by people who are open, kind and thoughtful, and I learned a lot, both practically, through working in the countryside, and personally.

My main responsibility was taking care of the … read more stable and Petra’s three mares, but I also had the chance to go horseback riding with her and enjoy the wonderful surrounding nature. I learned how to plant flowers and trees, take proper care of the horses and chickens, and even how to use a drill and sand surfaces. Rolling up my sleeves was always an opportunity to learn something new, spend time with the animals, or share a good laugh. I also improved my cooking skills by preparing lunches, biscuits and cakes (especially chocolate ones, always a hit!).

Having a private room and bathroom was very comfortable and made me feel at ease throughout my stay. At the same time, I really enjoyed being part of everyday family life and helping Petra with her daily adventures. She is witty, passionate and full of energy, and there is always something new to learn from her. Roger always made me feel at home: he is kind, welcoming and always has a story to tell. And his loving dog Oreo made sure I was never lonely, playing with him gave me so many reasons to laugh. On Sunday mornings it was really a precious tradition going with him to dog school (even if he's already a good boy!).

I also had the pleasure of meeting their son and spending Easter with the whole family. During my stay, I had the opportunity to explore the surrounding area with them on some weekends, discovering a beautiful, green and historically interesting region. I even went to Berlin for a weekend to visit Petra’s relatives, who were just as kind and welcoming. I enjoyed learning about their traditions, such as the Easter fire, and improving my German by attending the local Sprachcafé, where I met some lovely people. There were nice moments to share, whether it was music, stories, or photos from their adventures, and the traditional German recipes were, of course, lecker!

Petra and Roger have become two very important points of reference for me. I will always miss Glow, Cuba, Jupi and little Anton, the energetic foal I was lucky enough to get to know. I will also miss their wonderful chickens, which I had the good fortune to help raise.

In the countryside, there's always something to do, but you won't just be helping wonderful people, you'll also have the opportunity to exchange experiences, learn new things, and share moments of pure human connection.
I can't wait to come back and help you again, herzlichen Dank Petra and Roger!
