Description
I’m Cedric, 32 years old, and I’ll be travelling around Canada for a year starting on September 5th.
I’m from Germany, where I studied Educational Science. After graduating, I originally planned to travel, but COVID put those plans on hold. Instead, I spent the last few years working as a social worker. Alongside that, I continued working at the oldest cinema in Kiel, where I had already worked throughout most of my time at university.
I’d describe myself as an open-minded, easy-going, and reliable person who enjoys working as part of a team. Over the years, I’ve gained plenty of experience working with all kinds of people, and that’s something I genuinely enjoy.
One of my main goals during my stay is to experience Canada, meet new people, and improve my spoken English. I already understand English very well, and I’m looking forward to using it every day and becoming even more confident. -

Quelles sont vos compétences ?
I really enjoy learning new things and usually find it easy to adapt to new tasks and environments. I have done quite a few different jobs over the years, so I am used to jumping into something new, figuring out how things work and helping wherever I am needed.
A big part of my work experience is in hospitality. For almost six years, I worked at a small cinema with an attached bar, where I did pretty much everything from bartending and selling tickets to occasionally working as a projectionist. More recently, I worked at a beach bar on a campsite during the summer season, helping both behind the bar and with all kinds of tasks in the background. I really enjoy bar work and the atmosphere that comes with it – working in a team, meeting lots of different people and having busy shifts where everyone has to work together.
I am also used to being on my feet and working long shifts. I wouldn’t describe myself as particularly strong or experienced in heavy physical work, but I don’t mind getting my hands dirty and helping with practical tasks. I have some basic experience with gardening and outdoor work, such as cutting hedges, raking leaves, watering plants and doing general maintenance around a campsite. I am definitely not a skilled handyman, but I am happy to learn and help with things once someone shows me what to do.
I also enjoy cooking and have experience cooking for groups. I might need a moment to figure out how much food you actually need for 20 people instead of four, but once that’s sorted, I’m happy in the kitchen. :)
My professional background is in education and social work. I studied Education and German and later worked with people with disabilities, young refugees, children and teenagers. I have also been involved in voluntary youth work for more than ten years, organising and running summer camps, educational courses and weekend activities. Because of that, I am very used to teamwork, taking responsibility, organising things and dealing with all kinds of people and situations.
Apart from that, I have a regular driver’s licence, am comfortable with computers and everyday office software, and I am used to the normal cleaning and closing routines that come with working in a bar. Before university, I also worked in fast-food restaurants, supermarkets and gardening, so I have had a little experience with many different kinds of work.
Overall, I would say my biggest strengths are working with people, being part of a team and adapting quickly. I don’t expect to be good at everything from day one, but I am curious, reliable and usually happy to give things a try.
For my time in Canada, I would especially enjoy working in places like hostels, bars, campsites or other social environments where people live and work together. Meeting new people, improving my English, experiencing a different way of life and picking up some new skills along the way are a big part of why I am doing this trip in the first place. -
