    Description

We host seasonal retreats and workshops, work parties, jam sessions, and other spiritual and learning events. We’re welcoming community members to be a part of our daily lives, tasks include but not limited to building out more lodging structures and cultivating our annual and perennial gardens, as well as tending the forest and holistic land health. These tasks involve gardening, woodworking, natural building, forest management, water and solar systems, composting systems, food harvesting and processing. In addition, community living; cooking and eating well, with a passion for quality foods made and enjoyed with intention, tending and caring for our home and land.

Being at Wanosh, you’ll be inspired by our ways of living in harmony with the land. Art and cultural traditions from around the world have been woven into the fabric of this space, down to the earthen buildings.

We have openings for new friends to join us for Spring, Summer and Fall!
Project range from spring garden work (bed prep, compost building, planting, weeding and more fun garden activities), forest work (supporting with prepping burn piles, firewood, water sinks, & more!), organizing/spring cleaning projects, along with laying stone, and some carpentry projects. There is a lot of hands on learning in permaculture systems and season living to be had! We are looking for folks interested in natural building, tending the gardens, tending the wild, plant propagation, coppice, and animal husbandry.

YOU: Self motivated to help alongside friends or apply expertise to your own project. You are inspired to be looking at yourself and ways to align with optimal health and redesign consumer habits to reduce consumerism, trash and avoid supporting corporations that are poisoning water.

**Carpentry, garden skills , social media and marketing, and musicians are very supportive at this time.

We are looking for people to join us for 2 weeks - 6 months. We work on a 2 week trial basis and continue to feel into our arrangement together as time goes on. We prefer that your minimum stay is two to three weeks to insure a full experience on both ends, that being said if you are just passing through the area we have small projects that we can use help with, that don't plug you in so deeply to the hidden workings of permaculture that we have been developing over the last 13 years.

In the long haul we are looking to put together a dream team of folks interested in creating a community for the season (at least), helping me to put the finishing touches of stage one of a retreat center. I am hoping to have enough support on hand to keep the 13,000 square feet of diverse successional food and medicine gardens thriving as well as harvest more poles for timber framing, while doing fire prevention and watershed regeneration. The poles will be used to develop retreat housing in the future. I am currently catching all of the water we will need. This season we need to finalize campsites, some of which will be built into unique trees. All this while keeping a devotion to our practice of self care.

A little bit more about us....

We are a non profit fiscally sponsored, aspiring to create an educational and remembrance retreat center in the hills and forest of Northern California. We are currently in our building phase creating infrastructure to house our small growing community, visitors, and create more space for workshops. (we do not host workaway-ers during workshops) We are focusing on working in the forest, doing clearing for fire prevention and watershed regeneration while harvesting trees for round pole timber-frames, natural building and gardening. We have been doing controlled burning in a ritualistic way and do this work though the winter and spring. Come late spring & summer we turn our attention to the gardens.

We harvest all of our water, and are off grid with a small solar install.

WATER is our religion ;) We like to focus on a spirit-filled life of music and tea ceremony when we're not creating and maintaining what we steward. We are interested in hosting folks that are interested in self-improvement, healing arts of any kind and healthy life style.

Although we are a budding community, we appreciating holding space for each other to have independence and alone time. If being alone in nature scares you this is not the place for you. We thrive on keeping our space safe and sacred for all those whom visit and enjoy the peace we steward, we imagine that inspires you as well. We are not interested in hosting folks whom are just looking to party, although we live in celebration. Additionally, if you are non ceremonial smoker this is not likely to be the place for you.

Typically because we are such a small crew we take care of ourselves while sharing joyously. We spend our free time either making music, practicing asanas, cooking delicious meals from the garden, working on personal projects and drinking tea.

    Many Blessings,
    -Blair

You can plan on an experience focusing on living in harmony with the land and each other. There tends to be a large flux of different friends of all types with varying experiences and abilities to share, along with what is already held within our very small community. An open heart, open mind, curiosity, and self-motivation create the perfect opportunity to absorb endless skills, knowledge, and wisdom that come from living close to nature. This allows us to get in touch with our own true nature and abilities, with mindfulness of our environment and our influence.

At this time we have a handful of open natural building projects. These include finishing flag stone floor (stone leveling & mortar), and other finishing details. We have other small natural building/carpentry projects that need support as well.

In addition to building, we live in the forest and tending the forest is an important aspect of our stewardship, lively hood, and safety. We will be working on thinning and fuels reduction through the fall, winter and spring. This can mean dragging cut brush, or helping to stack wood, or build burn piles, support prescribed fire or biochar making. Overall, skills and curiosity to build skills in forest management are valuable.

The gardens are starting to turn towards summer which means planting, feeding, watering, building compost, harvesting, processing, and always, weeding.

As a permaculture site, we have been collecting materials for building, & supporting all projects, from plumbing, to carpentry, to gardening, for many years. Organizing is an on-going project and area that we always welcome support with.

Ideally we are looking for motivated friends who are eager to get'r done, understanding the importance of maintaining a balance of work and play! Welcoming folks looking for a devotional way to focus their life force energy.

Willits is a sweet little town with a charming community. There are fun local events such as art exhibits, craft fairs, weekly farmers market, ecstatic dance, dance classes, live music, open mic, etc. We like to stay tuned in to these and support our local community when we can....but we are also very busy on the land so it's all about balance. Where we live is mystifying and we're inspired by the land to deepen our relationship where we are. We are about a 15 minute drive from town. If you come without a car there is usually someone taking a trip off the mountain a couple times a week.

Although we will share in the experience of living in this small community, we expect short-term visitors to stay focused during their time here. If you are looking for a place to base camp while getting out and about for most of your stay, this is not it.
