Hey there, I’m Jasper Jay, a 28-year-old bee keeper and educator from North America.

I’m a storyteller with an adventurous spirit and a deep love for the natural world. I joined Workaway to connect with people, broaden my horizons, and help with conservation globally. I sincerely appreciate how welcoming this community is and am grateful to have already met so many amazing people on my adventures.

As a lifelong learner, I always appreciate a new challenge. I love working with my hands, doing carpentry, permaculture/ gardening. I genuinely enjoy putting in a full day's work and take pride in a job well done. I deeply care about animals and natural eco systems and have dedicated a lot of my time to taking direct action, specifically habitat restoration, animal enrichment, and public education. I hope to one day open my own nature reserve /sanctuary and hope to learn as much as I can from those paving the way.

In my free time, I'm always leaning something new. Recently I've taken up film photography. When I'm not hiking or writing, I'm volunteering at a local sanctuary for neglected dogs, cats, cows, pigs, ducks, and reptiles. I feel so fulfilled after a day caring for the animals, maintaining the enclosures, and coordinating other volunteers. It's great fun to contribute to something bigger while flexing my creative problem solving skills.

Right now, I'm hoping to meet other down-to-earth people, experience other ways of life, and make an impact. I'm not afraid of doing physical work in any weather and I'll probably be smiling all the while.

Quelles sont vos compétences ?

I'm a jack of all trades, here's a summary of the different skills I have.

I enjoy organizing and cleaning around the house. I try new recipes all the time, particularly while baking, but am a competent cook as well.

I'm an avid gardener having worked at two different garden centers. I've planted everything from trees to seeds and grow my own food at home. I'm happy to pull weeds and do anything to take care of the planet but please never cut down a tree, I'm a tree hugger through and through.

I have lots of experience taking care of animals, from cats and dogs to birds and horses. I grew up in a ranching town and though I may be slightly out of practice mucking stalls I'm still an active dog sitter and love taking care pets or all types.

I'm a fiction writer, blogger, and youtube meaning I'm very comfortable editing (or creating) websites, creating videos, and telling stories.

I have three years of experience working in woodshops doing carpentry and am currently employed as an interior designer of sorts.
Tools I'm comfortable with:

I'm currently planning on getting a working Visa. I'm looking to stay in Japan for about 6 months so the times when I am available to work are flexible.
I don't particularly care for alcohol and don't eat much fish but I have no problem if you do.
