Description
My working life is devoted to teaching courses in biology, zoology, and environmental science at a community college in the U.S. I enjoy this work because it affords me the opportunity to share my love of nature, its beauty and its patterns, with others. For the past year or so, a chemistry colleagues and I have been co-hosting a public radio podcast called Yackety Science. We are now in our second season and will undoubtedly keep talking until someone makes us shut up. You can find all of our episodes here: www.publicradiotulsa.org/podcast/yackety-science.
When I get tired of the world of science, you will often find me painting, drawing, or writing—trying to add layers of narrative and meaning to the world around me. Wildlife, wizards, and snooty hounds feature quite prominently in these artistic endeavors. You can see some of my work here: erehwonart.com. I also love to bird watch, hike, and garden.
From 2002-2003, I was an environmental education volunteer in Senegal, where I worked with a couple of rural schools and communities. Part of the appeal of that work was getting to learn French (and a bit of Wolof). A couple of more recent travel experiences have reawakened my love a languages, including French and Italian, and I have been working on improving my fluency. That is part of what has led me to Workaway.
I currently live in Tulsa, OK, with my wife, two kids who are too rapidly turning into adults (16 and 19), and an ever-changing menagerie of pets. I am looking for opportunities to travel in between semesters, improve my language skills, and see a bit more of the world without fighting the tourist trap crowds. -

Quelles sont vos compétences ?
My formal training is in biology and environmental science. If you need someone to design a laboratory activity on habitat choice or make a PowerPoint on the carbon cycle, I am your guy. I have developed some skills in drawing and painting from my artistic endeavors. And I have general skills in home improvement and gardening, the kind that come from owning a home for 20+ years. But I certainly cannot claim to be an expert carpenter, plumber, or electrician. However, I do learn quickly when shown what to do.
