    Description

We live on a sixty acre community with five shares. Each share has its own garden; we care for the land together and share our crops. The house on our share is high on a ridge, with magnificent views of the Koonyum range and up in to the rainforest and easterly views to the sea. It is beautiful and quiet and peaceful. We are a quiet and fun-loving non-smoking community. We are ecologically conscious and spiritually oriented, and we are moving towards being self-sustaining. We enjoy games nights and working together in our organic garden, going to the beach, meditating and celebrating life. We are planning on going Chi Gong classes.

Travellers will be immersed in life in rural Australia. They will learn about local conditions, about our weather patterns (sub tropical), the way of life of “whitefellas” and a bit of lore about aboriginal life as well. They will learn some local history, as this land was subject to clearcutting for cattle and then banana plantations. We are regenerating our land at Bindarri with rainforest plants, as well as using permaculture techniques for our gardens and fields. We are not typical rural Australians from this area, as we come from various other places, but visitors can expect to have varied and interesting interactions.

Caring for the land is our main priority, and we would love to have help with gardening and land care. This would include maintenance of vegetable gardens, orchards, and eradication of invasive plant species in our fields (no chemicals are used) and odd jobs.

There are two accomodations. One is a large rustic shed that has been converted to a lovley open living space with a king sized bed, a fridge, a cooking stove. sofas, desk, sink with running water, hot shower and Wi-Fi, and is well lit. One end of the shed opens with large sliding glass doors onto a beautiful private meadow. There is an outdoor toilet, and a wood stove for the winter. The other room is a newly built self-contained, indoor kitchen/living room with sliding glass doors and a gypsy caravan, cosy with double bed, comfy arm chair and storage space. Private with beautiful views. We're on sixty acres and we have a beautiful loving cat and dog and birds galore.

Volunteers prepare their own meals in the kitchen provided with the accomodation, but we have occasional group meals with the community. There is a garden and orchard to eat out of.

Mullumbimby is a rural small town in the hinterland north west of Byron Bay. It is unusual in that it has attracted conscious alternative people from all over the world. The area is culturally rich with something for everyone……chanting, theatre, live music, great pubs, yoga classes and many varieties of retreats, fabulous beaches, bush walking, alternative therapies, surfing, parachuting, kayaking, art galleries and many interesting events. Mustn't forget the abundance of fabulous restaurants.
Mullum is 5 minutes away by car. We have bicycles and are happy to take you in to catch a bus to Byron Bay which is 20 minutes away. We do go up and down to Mullum or the beach every day. Ballina and Gold Coast airports are 35 minutes away and we are willing to pick you up if necessary. There is also a lovely beach at the sleepy little town of Brunswick Heads 10 minutes from Mullum.
