    Description

The Community is an all-inclusive Christian based community that welcomes everybody whatever their belief or non-belief, to help within a small, dedicated team of staff.

We are a completely 'off the grid' community running on solar and wind power, based on the peaceful east coast of Essex on the edge of the beautiful Black Water Estuary.

What we expect from our volunteers is respect, kindness to others and a good work ethic, and in return you have comfortable accommodation, usually your own room but you may be required to share, 3 home-cooked meals a day and a tea and biscuit break mid-morning and mid-afternoon. We cater for all dietary requirements, Vegan, Vegetarian, Gluten and Lactose free, and all meals are cooked from scratch with ingredients that we have grown where possible.

IMPORTANT. We require a minimum of a 2 week stay, longer term stays will be given priority, but once you arrive, you may not want to leave…

Help, we encourage 5 hours a day, 5 days a week, with 2 full days off. We also expect help with laying the tables for mealtimes and help with tidying up afterwards on top of your daily help hours, but the down time afterwards can be a chat or listening to someone with a guitar (it could be you if you can play) or just a quiet time in a secluded natural corner of our land or in your room.

In your free time, there are coastal walks, a pool table, small towns and villages to explore and the company and experience of others to tap in to. There are bus links close by, and if need be, we can offer a lift to nearby towns and village if you want to explore on your days off. The sea is 10 minutes walk away, and safe swimming areas are available when the tide permits.

All in all, a great place to find yourself and well worth 5 minutes of your time to write to us.

There are many tasks here but at present we are really interested in help from Workawayers whom have permaculture experience. Tasks range from volunteering in the kitchen for communal meals, general cleaning , helping in our organic gardens, maintenance of the grounds and most importantly, interaction with our community members so that they and you can enjoy time here. We are a busy and vibrant community and sometimes there is plenty to be done but we always relax over a good cup of tea and a biscuit every few hours! There are busy periods and quieter times that allow you to enjoy the surrounding area, including time in London. Kitchen experience is preferred and a reasonable level of English is required.

We are on an undeveloped part of the coast, far from the hustle and bustle of urban life. You can enjoy walks on the beach, walk around the coastal path, drop into a local pub, take one of the bicycles for a ride around the lanes.

We are frequently visited by a multitude of wildlife because we are so in tune with nature, badgers, hares, rabbits, muntjac deer, foxes and the like, around our bird feeders you'll see pheasant and moorhens, as well as the more common species, and in the woodland that surrounds us, who knows what else...

The centre is two miles from the nearest bus route which connects to local villages and further afield.
London is fairly close and at Southminster there are regular trains to Liverpool Street Station.
Usually there is someone around who can give you a lift to the bus stop or even to one of the nearby towns for banking services, personal shopping etc.

"As a new Workaway Ambassadors, it was a pleasure to spend time here. It is a very laid back and inclusive community that opens its property and facilities to groups of all kinds. In the 3 weeks we were volunteering, we had 3 or 4 groups come in and stay for a few nights, as well as a wedding! The tasks vary from pressing apples to a million other opportunities to help around the property. And it’s only a 1.5 hour train ride from London. I highly recommend this Workaway opportunity to connect with nature and the community."
