Description
Hi! I’m Marlies. For the past 7 years, I’ve been running the very first cat & dog sanctuary nestled in the lush jungle of Cahuita, Costa Rica. What started as a solo mission has grown into a vibrant safe haven for over 50 cats and 15 dogs. Now, we’re opening our doors and inviting passionate international volunteers to join our rescue family!
True Jungle Life 🐒🦥
Living here means you’re truly immersed in nature! We share our property with two resident troops of monkeys and two sloths who frequently drop by. Since we are deep in the jungle, you'll also encounter local wildlife like spiders and snakes outdoors—they don't live in the house, but they are very much a part of our ecosystem!
Life in Cahuita 🚲🏖️
Cahuita is a small town with an amazing, welcoming community. We have bicycles available for you to use—we are just a 5-minute bike ride away from local supermarkets, cozy spots, and beautiful Caribbean beaches!
Accommodation & Setup 🏠
Volunteers stay right on site in a cozy dorm-style setup:
Sleeping Arrangements: 1 shared bedroom with 4 dorm beds, a small bathroom, and a fully equipped kitchen.
The Living Space: The rescue area includes a living room where some of our resident cats live and hang out, so you'll truly be living alongside our furry friends!
Meals: Please note that food is not included, but you can easily buy groceries at the local supermarkets (5 mins away by bike) and cook in the volunteer kitchen.
The Volunteer Experience & Daily Duties
Rescue work is incredibly rewarding, but it’s also hard work! We believe in being 100% transparent about what daily life looks like here:
Daily Sanitation (about 50% of the role): Keeping our animals healthy starts with a clean environment! A big part of your day involves scooping cat litter boxes, cleaning and sanitizing cages/living areas, and managing dog waste.
Hands-On Care: Feeding our residents, giving baths to the dogs, administering basic medications, and ensuring everyone has fresh water and clean bedding.
Socialization & Love: Extra cuddles, playtime, and giving our special-needs and resident animals the affection they deserve.
Rescue Missions: Get front-row experience! You’ll have the unique chance to join us on real-life animal rescue missions and community outreach throughout the local area.
Who We’re Looking For:
We welcome energetic, hardworking, self-motivated, and compassionate animal lovers who aren't afraid to get their hands dirty—whether you're traveling solo, as a couple, or with a friend! Because our animals thrive on stability and connection, we ask for a minimum commitment of 1 month. -

Join our diverse and passionate team at our cat rescue, where we care for 91 kittens and cats. Volunteering with us offers a unique opportunity to learn valuable skills in animal care, including administering medications and providing daily support.
Our team consists of members from all over the world, offering you the chance to learn new languages and experience different cultures. Living and working in the jungle, you will also gain insight into the local wildlife and understand the interactions between domestic and wild animals. -
Aide
Light Workload: Just 4 hours a day, 5 days a week (Enjoy 2 full days off every week!).
Join our dedicated team at our cat rescue, home to 91 kittens and cats. We're looking for compassionate volunteers to help us with essential tasks, including cleaning and disinfecting cages to ensure a safe and healthy environment for our feline friends.
Your role will also involve giving much-needed love and attention to the kittens, helping them to socialize and feel secure.
If you have a passion for animal welfare and want to make a real difference, we’d love to hear from you. Together, we can provide these cats with the care and affection they deserve.
*Volunteer Responsibilities:*
- Clean and disinfect cages and living areas
- Provide love, attention, and socialization for the kittens
- Assist with general care tasks as needed -

Hébergement
We offer a one bedroom house, with 2 bunkbeds in total :) It's a fully equided house, with a kitchen, kitchen applies, a livingroom, a shower and bathroom.

Puerto Viejo de Talamanca is one of the most beautiful areas of Costa Rica. Some of the most famous surfing spots of the world are in this area. The beaches are endless. There are national parks, surfing spots, snorkeling, tours.
